Hi..

We reach Bolzano by train from Florence on the 25th Nov at 11am.. we have our accommodation at Suprabolzano for the duration of our stay.

25th Nov- Half day tour of Suprabolzano Christmas market and Renon rail

26th Nov - explore Bolzano/ Christmas market / Otzi meuseum-

27th Nov- trip to Merano..! Is it worth it??

28th Nov - day trip to Lake Carezza,—. How do I reach there by bus??

Any other places u sugges to visit in area??
Pls note we are not hiring a car only using local transport.

28th Nov- late evening train to Venice.

If Bolzano has more day trip options do u suggest we cut down a day from Venice and spend another day in Bolzano?
Had planned 3 full days for Venice, you suggest we spend only 2??

We love nature and beautiful landscapes.

Soprabolzano?

The Renon Rail should be fun. I hope you report back on your experience.

I think the excursion to Lake Carezza would be doable but logistically tricky without a car. First, you'd get to Bolzano (bus?) and hopefully not wait too long for the bus to Lake Carezza. It seems to be line 180.1 from Bolzano. There don't seem to be any services right at the lake, so you'd have to walk or catch a later bus to take you farther along the road to a restaurant or café near the lifts. You should check in advance to know what dining options will be open at that time of year. Then you'd reverse the bus trips back to Bolzano and Soprabolzano. Double check your plans with a local to be sure they will work and for insight into whether anything else will be open.

Rather than Merano, I'd spend more time exploring the towns along the Renon Rail. Or perhaps go to Trento for the day. For me, a lot would depend on the weather, and at the end of November I wouldn't take away time from Venice for the Bolzano area. You're not visiting the Sud Tyrol at the best time of year and not giving yourself enough time to see the truly spectacular scenery.

Make sure your train from Bolzano to Venice is due to arrive well in time to catch whatever vaporetto you'd be taking to your lodging. Allow a cushion in case the train is late.

There seems to be in fact nothing but a small parking and a tiny sandwich and beverages kiosk at Lago Carezza/Karersee. Other restaurants can be reached on foot (30 - 45 min).

Buses from Bolzano/Bozen every 2 hrs fron 9.30 until 19.30
and from Karersee/Lago Carezza back to Bolzano/Bozen every 2 hrs from 9.30 until 17.30. Journey time 50 min.

How do we go to Alta Badia from Bolzano, can you please guide.

And even that kiosk at Lake Carezza may not be open in late November, especially mid-week.

Where in Alta Badia? I think anything east of Selva would be too time-consuming to reach. The bus from Bolzano to Selva (line 350) takes about 90 minutes each way and passes through Ortizei, so you could wander both towns. But don't expect much to be open in either.

Should I skip Merano and cover a Alta Badia for instance??

If of interest, there are some castles in and near Bolzano itself in case weather dashes your day trip plans. The Dominican church is also interesting. I was only there one day, but there seemed to be plenty to do and see beyond Otzi.

Alta Badia in winter:
easiest way from Baolzano: train to Bruneck/Brunico/Bornech plus bus.
Once in Alta Badia, you may go on by bus to Arabba - Caprile - Agordo - Belluno - Venice instead of backtracking to Bolzano/Bozen.

I suppose you realize that temperatures may get below zero centigrades in this season.

Neckervd.. yes I am aware, I want to experience it during that time.. and as the locals says.. “it’s never bad weather but bad clothing”
We are prepared to dress appropriately for the weather ..!!
