Bolonga or Amalfi??
I'm going to either Bolongna or Amalfi on a student trip this summer. Which one is more fun to stay in for a month? Thanks!

Quick...pick Amalfi before they change their mind.

i would choose bologna there is more to see and do besides scenery and easy to make day trips from to other areas

Comparing Bologna and Amalfi is like comparing apples and horseshoes, never mind apples and oranges. Each is unique, each has its good points, and each has its bad points.
I personally would choose Bologna over Amalfi because: (1) there's a helluva lot more to see and do in Bologna (2) the University of Bologna and its 100,000 students create an energetic atmosphere (or so the tourbooks say...) (3) Day-tripping to other places like Florence, Parma, Ferrara, Venice, etc., is easy -- Bologna is a major train hub for central Italy and is less than 2 hours from most anywhere, including the Adriatic beaches of Rimini. (4) Bologna isn't overwhelmed with tourists -- it's truly an Italian city. (5) You won't get vertigo or motion sickness on the ride into Bologna. Amalfi is beautiful but is isolated. If your instructor has some proposed itineraries for what you would see in Amalfi versus Bologna, please post them here and we can give you more information about what you would be seeing, and which city would be better to stay in. |
I agree. If I were a student I would chose Bologna, it is the "City of Students". Everyone here that votes for Bologna has made good points IMO.
Amalfi is wonderful but in your situation Bologna would win hands down. How exciting for you. This will be a fabulous experience. |
You didn't say which summer month. I agree Bologna has far more to do for students, and is close to some sites you'd probably enjoy visiting. BUT, if your month is August, forget it! Everyone leaves Bologna; it is like a ghost town. In August, go to Amalfi!

Yes,eliztrav is right. Bologna in August would be hot and humid without the students (of course,as they are on vacation) so Amalfi would be better.
I wasn't think of students being on vacation. But do you have the final say regarding the location? I assume there are two different student trips and you can chose the one you want. Whichever you decide, have a wonderful time. |
