Bologna to Bellagio late afternoon trip options on train
I am looking at Bologna to Bellagio trip on a Friday late afternoon in June.
These seem to be options: what are pros and cons?
1) Bologna-Varenna by train, Varenna-Bellagio by Targhetto. The last one is usually at 21:00. If I miss the last targhetto, is there a way to get to Bellagio?
2) Bologna-Como by train, Como-Bellagio by speed boat. The last one seems to be 19:10 on weekday. What are the options if I miss the last boat? taxi/bus to do Como-Bellagio?
3) How about Bologna-Lecco by train, Lecco-Bellagio by taxi/bus (if such thing exists)

Greg - No 1 is best. Bologna-Varenna fastest train time little over 3 hrs (- with a change of train at Milano Centrale).
The only 'con' is that it's a 10 mins walk from Varenna-Esina station down to the dock.
Plan not to miss the last traghetto
Hope this helps ...

I am trying to get little bit more info.
If arriving at Lake Como after regular boats and buses stopped running, ~21:30, how do you get to Bellagio from Varenna? Is there such thing as (expensive) water taxi?
If taking (land) taxi to Bellagio, which is better place, COMO or LECCO? I presume I would have to pay all sorts of surchages...

greg,
I'm assuming that you have had a look at the ferry timetable;
http://www.navigazionelaghi.it/itali...indicecomo.htm
It looks to me as if there is a ferry from Varenna to Bellagio at 22.35 - there certainly was when we were there in April 2005.
I agree that the note on the timetable saying that this service is suspended confuses the issue somewhat but I take it to mean that there is no 22.35 service only on Christmas Day & New Year's Day.

I can definitively solve your problem but
There are private boats tied up at Bellagio that say they are 'water taxis'. Try 338 524 4914 or bellagiowatertaxis.com. (another company www.taxiboat.it phnoe 031 950 201.)
It looks like Como and Lecco are equidistant, if you need to take a land taxi.
My car ferry schedule (2005) shows a 22:35 ferry Varenna to Bellagio (Non holidays) as well. The boat service changed to Winter schedules on October 2nd so their website probably does not show this boat.
Hope that this helps.
