Bologna Restaurants open on Sunday?

My husband and I will be arriving in Bologna on a Sunday evening (from Venice in April) and would like to book a fabulous meal to kick off our food-focused days in Emilia Romagna. Restaurants that piqued my interest include Da Gianni and Trattoria Dal Bassianot, but both appear closed on Sunday night. (We will probably hit those another time during our 4 nights.)

Does anyone have a suggestion for a great meal on Sunday? We would prefer a sit-down restaurant emblematic of the region's cuisine, somewhat centrally located, though we would be willing to hop in a cab if needed (we are staying near Piazza Maggiore). Price is not particularly important, but I suppose we would want to keep it under 75E per person, since I know we will be asked!

I will post on Chowhound as well.

Thanks for your help!

I think you may be running against a sort of generalized European custom of having a large and elaborate Sunday lunch followed by a very light supper. Many restaurants may close altogether on Sunday, and I would be very surprised to find that the kind of dinner you want is available on Sunday evening. But I hope I am wrong! Let us know if you get good recs.

I agree Ackislander. I will have to decide if we should leave Venice a little earlier to have a nice late lunch. But hopefully, I can find a few recs for good Sunday dinners. It does not have to be particularly elaborate. A local trattoria would be lovely...the food is far more important than pomp and circumstance!

Here are several places I can recommend. We ate at all of them in October 2011.

Le Mura - a fine Sicilian seafood restaurant in meat-loving Bologna. We ate here on a Sunday evening.

Ristorante da Nello al Montegrappa. Excellent traditional Bolognese food. Loud and bustling. We ate here on a Saturday night, but I believe they are open every day but Monday.

Osteria al 15. Simpler than da Nello, but good, inexpensive Bolognese food, with a very fun, entertaining staff and owner. Not sure about Sunday hours here.

Have a great trip!

Thanks phillyboy! Ristorante da Nello al Montegrappa was also recommended to me on Chowhound - it is reassuring to have a place mentioned twice.

Does anyone have experience with Antica Trattoria della Gigina (slightly outside the city center) or Giampi e Ciccio? They also appear open on Sunday.

How about here?

It's about a half an hour leisurely walk from Piazza Maggiore or a short cab ride/bus ride.
