Bologna, Italy
What is the best way to visit the Sanctuary of the Madonna of San Luca using public transportation ?? Would prefer not to have to rent a car.
|
DH and I took a cab to the top of the hill to San Luca, Nygvic0326...I don't think there was a bus stop. We walked down. Can anyone confirm or correct?
|
We got the RED BUS Santa Luca Express which takes you right there from the centre. We walked back down the 4km portico and jumped on the bus at the bottom - seemed like good idea at the time!
We spent a month in Bologna and only rented a car for a day (and managed to acquire a ticket for driving in a bus lane which added significantly to the cost! |
Thanks, crellston! Know this will help the OP. Does the bus have a regular route with stops OP could find near the hotel??

Sorry TDudette, I can’t recall exactly, it was a few years ago. I Am pretty sure there were stops along the way. There is a very good tourist information centre on the main Plaza who will have the details. We got the bus from the Plaza. I imagine they will be staying not too far away so that would be the best bet

Thanks all. Will contact Tourist Office in Bologna.

We took a taxi up, and then a tram back.

I will be in Bologna at the end of Nov and San Luca is close to my apt. I believe you take bus #20.

Here is the link to the somewhat ironically named San Luca Express which is a dedicated tourist bus to take you up to the Monastery and back if you wish. The timetable is attached. it being Bologna the bus is of course red.
