Bologna hotels

Can anyone recommend a hotel in Bologna? Priced around $200/nt? Thanks.

I stayed at the Corona d'Oro in 1994, I think the average cost is just over $200 a night now, but it is a wonderful, historic hotel right in the heart of charming Bologna. I highly recommend it :-)

Check out a feature article on Bologna in the NY Times today:

Here are two hotels recommended there:

A pleasant bed-and-breakfast in the heart of the city center's vibrant market, the Albergo delle Drapperie, (1) Via delle Drapperie, 5 (39-051) 223 955, www.albergodrapperie.com, was completely restored in 2004, and now has 21 comfortable rooms with charming wood ceilings for an affordable price. Double rooms cost $92, at $1.23 to the euro, and all include air conditioning for the steamy summer months.

With rooms looking out onto the historic Piazza Maggiore, the three star Hotel Orologio, (2) Via IV Novembre, 10, (39-051) 745 7411, www.bolognarthotels.it, is both right in the middle of the action and comfortably distanced from it, thanks to its quiet, comfortable rooms. Double rooms run about $210 during the summer.

I stayed at the Hotel Paridiso, but it was lower-priced than you're looking for (don't know if that is a problem for you).
It is in a pedestrian area, very quiet, with a good breakfast. About 3 blocks north of the Duomo.

Last fall when we were in Bologna, the Hotel Orologio was only $20 cheaper than the weekend rate at the Hotel Baglioni. The Baglioni also let us keep the weekend rate for two days during the week. (I thought that was a ridiculous request but they agreed to it in advance without any problems.)

When are you going?

Did you see the Trenitalia special mentioned in this thread?

We stayed in the San Donato after a recommendation from a friend. Their prices vary hugely depending on season and whether it's conference time in Bologna.

We got a good rate.

Don't be put off by the fact it's a Best Western. It's just a marketing umbrella. This hotel is in a beautiful, historic building, very well located and with nice rooms and great service.
