Bologna: Hotel Porta San Mamolo

I have seen good reviews for this hotel in Bologna. Any comments? Also, if you know of this hotel, does it have airconditiong? Or...should one have airconditioning in Mid-July in Bologna? Thanks. Any other hotel recommendations for center of city.

Barb: Did you end up staying at Hotel Porta San Mamolo. We booked 3 nights in June 2007 based on ther reviews and was just curious. Thanks!

Hello
No...we ended up staying at the Metropolitan Hotel. It was very nice and very convenient to the bus that goes to the airport.

We are staying at this hotel in May so if there are any comments, we would love to hear them.

I'm considering booking either here or the Metropolitan Hotel. The Porta San Mamolo came highly recommended, but I'm a little put-off by it being outside the city center.

Can anyone comment on the importance/difference between being in the center or not?

From what I've read, the Hotel Porta San Mamolo is about 10-minute walk to Piazza Maggiore.

Everything we have read said the location is a 10 minute walk to the center of the city. We consider that well in town as we enjoy the walking.

Robyn: When I booked our rooms for June, I went to viamichelin.com and used the "on foot" option from the hotel address to Piazza Maggiore and it is 1 km. We, too, like to walk and are looking forward to our stay. Enjoy!

These are my photos of Hotel Porta San Mamolo, Bologna, Italy from May 6, 2007. This is the first time I have posted photos, so I hope I did it right.

The hotel is lovely and the staff was friendly and extremely helpful:
