Bologna- Anything Open On Sunday?
 

On our fall trip to Italy, we are planning to spend two nights in Bologna but,the way our itinerary is working out,we will arrive around lunchtime on Saturday and leave for Florence on Monday morning. I understand that in parts of Italy things tend to shut down after noon on Saturday until Monday.Will there be anything for us to do in Bologna during this period?

Hello dcdee, I saw your post yesterday and trying to remember if I had been in Bologna on a Sunday (have only had day trips there).

Ok, I finally figured it out. Last time there was a Saturday. And it was fantastic! Now what I would do is stroll the shopping areas (walking under arcades is wonderful and there are beautiful stores). In fact there were various bands on several corners and even the senior citizens were bouncing along as they did their errands.
A real fun day.

Then on Sunday you could check out the churches etc. And you will enjoy walking to the areas you did not see on Saturday. And of course you will enjoy the food in Bologna, it is fantastic.

I don't know if all the stores will be closed on Sunday, it is quite an University town so tons of students so some may be open.

I don't think you will have a problem finding things to do on Sunday. A leisurely lunch would be wonderful. And Bologna is beautiful and an easy city to visit. Enjoy!

Another strongly recommended Sunday activity: Sitting in an outdoor cafe in Piazza Maggiore, truly one of Italy's best.

Yes Howard, I could not remember the name of the piazza (am bad at taking notes).
And yes dcdee, you will have a wonderful time in Bologna.
