Bodrum to Rhodes ferry or hydrofoil schedule

I will be in Bodrum Turkey April 6-10 2015 and have also booked a room in Rhodes for 1 nighton April 8.

Problem is that I cannot find any schedule: have read all the threads giving various ferries companies and website. But when it is VERY difficult to find information:
> the websites don't tell you what date to what date is summer, and/or winter season.
> some gave schedule updated in 2012
> some given links do not work
> when I tried to input the actually dates I want to travel, came up with nothing

I believe there is daily (?) hydrofoil that goes from Bodrum to Kos, but the search stopped there because I cannot connect from Kos to Rdoes, and also cannot find information about returning trip. Not sure if the Rdoes to Kos to Bodrum hydrofoil/ferry runs every day in April or not.

Prefer not to go from Bodrum to Marmaris (that would be my last option).

Can someone please help? someone who knows about the updated schedule or has taken such routes recently, not a few years ago, or asking me to go to this or that website. I have tried, believe me, on 5-6 ferry websites and came up with nothing.

I even considered flying back to Istanbul and then onto Rhodes ...

Thanks.

I've always found this website useful but it's too soon to see what's available for next April. http://www.feribot.net/feribot

Croesus Nov 21st, 2014 08:44 AM

This timetable goes to April 2015 - http://www.bodrumferibot.com/en/calendar.asp

Croesus Nov 21st, 2014 08:48 AM

And this company for Kos to Rhodes - http://www.12ne.gr/en/itin_search.asp?pageID=135

You won't have a problem getting from Kos to Rhodes, as ferries operate this route on a year-round basis. It may be too early to see April timetables, but you can get an idea of what will be available by looking at the winter timetables. In addition to the Dodekanisos Seaways ferry in Croesus' link, Blue Star Ferries also operates on that route.

Try using gtp.gr, entering Kos as the origin and Rhodes as the destination, but leaving month and day as "Any". Check for sailings in 2014, and it will show departures right up until March 2015. If anything April will be busier, especially around the time you are travelling, because Greek Easter falls on April 12th in 2015.

Thanks. This is the first time I got something useful!!

If I leave Bodrum (Bodrum Express) at 9:30am I will arrive in Kos at 10:20am. I can then take Dodekanisos Express leaving Kos at 11:40am arriving in Rhodes at 16:50pm.

But that is a whole day travelling!!

Wonder if there is anything faster between Kos and Rhodes (rather than 5 hours!!).
Also when I arrive at Kos from Bodrum, is it the same dock that I switch to the Dodekanisos ferry/express, or do I have to grab a bus/taxi to get to the dock going to Rhodes?

Will check out "gtp.gr" website - not sure what it is. But I think the Blue Star Ferries is just as slow, cause I took it once from Ancona Italy to Split in Croatia.

Looks like Marmaris to Rhodes would be less painful (no stops at 4-5 islands along the way) - I just have to take a bus or car from Bodrum to Marmaris.

But which ferry/hydrofoil runs in April between Marmaris and Rhodes?

gertie3751 Nov 21st, 2014 05:09 PM

I got a hydrofoil I think it was from Rhodes to Bodrum direct a few years ago. It shuttled back and forth although I only did the trip one way. I wonder if it is still running? Took about 2 or 3 hours, much longer than the trip from Rhodes to Fethiye.

Johnmango Nov 22nd, 2014 06:36 AM

Things change all the time and also according to the season. I know there are direct hydrofoils between Bodrum and Rhodes, but probably only from May to September. I am going in April.

Now I believe I can travel from Bodrum to Kos no problem. But Kos to Rhodes all the ferries stop at the small islands before landing in Rhodes so the ferries will take 4-5 hours. If I leave Bodrum at 9 am it will be late late afternoon when I get to Rhodes.

Now I am thinking of getting to Marmaris from Bodrum. Actually found a private transfer which charges 200 euros "return". With a private transfer I can start as early as 6-7 am and be at the Marmaris dock by 9am.

Once in Marmaris there are daily hydrofoil directly between Marmaris and Rhodes, and quite a few times a day. There are 2 that I found: Marmaris Ferry, and Yeşil Marmaris.

Johnmango, back up a bit. WHY are you going to Rhodes for just one night? Is this a business trip? If it is for pleasure/vacation, it makes no sense to go to Rhodes at all if you spend most of a day getting there only to return to Turkey the next day. That to me is the more important question than how to do something that may not make sense to do at all.

In answer to your question itself, the easiest way is from Marmaris as you have now found out. You do need to realize however that hydrofoils do NOT always run. They cannot run if the sea is rough. In April that is a possibility you must consider.

Johnmango Nov 22nd, 2014 11:12 AM

I am not going to Rhodes for business, or for just one day. I have booked the Hotel Attiki for one night because I thought I could leave Bodrum in the morning, arrive in Rhodes in the early afternoon, have the rest of the day there and leave the following day in the late morning or early afternoon.

Not planning to go to other places other than wondering around old town Rhodes. Not a beach person or going for the "night-life" - interested in the St. John's order as I believe the order was in Rhodes first before they went to Malta (??). Also interested in seeing the "Colossus of Rhodes" which I have heard so much - which in real life was not so big that it straddled the harbor.

I have five days in Bodrum in an inexpensive B&B which costs 50 euros a night. So if necessary I can stay an extra night in Rhodes - just have to tell the B&B in Bodrum that I will be going away for 1-2 days.

Sojourntraveller Nov 22nd, 2014 01:33 PM

Umm, you're right, you will be going to Rhodes for LESS than one day. A part day on arrival and part day the next day.

The idea that as a tourist you can 'see' Rhodes in one day is ludicrious. But then you note you want to see the 'Colossus of Rhodes' as if it actually exists for you to see does tend to indicate you haven't done much research before deciding to go there.

First of all, there is no actual evidence that the Colossus actually stood at the harbour entrance. There are drawings that suggest it but they were made long after it was gone. It is far more likely that it stood on a hill so that it's like could be seen from farther away at sea. Something like this:
http://img4.wikia.nocookie.net/__cb2...fRhodes_01.jpg

As for the Knights of St. John and Rhodes, they built or restored 30 castles on the island of which some ruins can still be found. Monolithos is one, Kastello, Archangelos, Feraklos are others.

The only NON-Hospitaller castle on the island is the one in Rhodes Old Town which was built by the Italians in the 20th century based on nothing other than what they imagined the Knights castle there might have looked like. The actual castle of the Knights blew up in 1856 and the Italian 'restoration' was in done 1937-40.

So you won't have enough time to see the real Hospitaller castles around the island, only the fake one in town. Rhodes needs at least a week to make it worthwhile visiting. That is unless all you want to do is tick a name off a list.

Afaik the Dodecanissos Seaways April timetable is not yet published.
The actual 11.40 catamaran that you mention doesn't go to Rhodos, but to Kalymnos.
The daily Bluestar ferries leave Kos between 2am and 6.30am
The Bodrum - Rhodos catamaran runs usually in July and August.
The extremely old hydrofoil Aegean Prince (ex Flying Dolphin Erato) is usually scheduled for 2-4 weekly trips between May and October, but I haved some doubts if it will still be able to run next year.

BTW: there are not only medieval buildings in Rhodos, but antique sites too: Lindos, Kamiros, Ialissos, etc. and of course a lot of small old rural churches with fine byzantine frescoes.
...and don't forget to visit the castles of the knights of Rhodos at the harbours of Bodrum and Kos.

Thanks neckervd. I have decided to take the Bodrum - Marmaris - Rhodes route instead. The ferry from Kos to Rhodes just takes too long for me.

Have to wait till may be March to see the new schedule before making any changes. Thanks again.

Hi Johnmango, we are trying to figure out how to do the opposite next summer (Rhodes to Bodrum or Marmaris) - curious what your experience was like, and what you thought of both Bodrum and Rhodos.

neckervd Sep 21st, 2015 01:36 AM

Laura:
Things are much easier in summer than in April. This summer, there was a direct Rhodos - Bodrum catamaran every Saturday and Sunday. Kos - Bodrum was twice daily, at 9.15 and 16.30.
http://www.bodrumferryboat.com/en/calendar.asp

For all other days I recommend to travel via Kos and to sleep there. There is a lot to do at Kos: ancient Asklepion, Cruisader's castle, many beaches. You could then use the almost daily late afternoon ferry from Rhodos to Kos. The Dodecannese Seaways catamarans leave Rhodos all in the morning and you may then have some luggage storage problems at Kos until the departure time of the Bodrum bound ferry or catamaran.

Thanks Neckervd, this may solve the dilemma. The only problem is that even with three weeks there doesn't seem to be enough time to get to all the places we want to be :) guess that is a wonderful dilemma to have.

travelerjan Sep 21st, 2015 07:45 PM

Laura that's an easy dilemma to solve, I have found the solution ... just keep going back and going back and going back.

lauramsgarden Sep 22nd, 2015 02:46 PM

ah but Jan, there is such a big wide world out there....so many wonderful places to go

Johnmango Oct 1st, 2015 09:31 AM

Laura:

I did go to Rhodes this last April (2014). But April was not "tourist season" so hydrofoil is not frequent. I actually went to Marmaris instead of Bodrum. In April there were 2 hydrofoils a week between Marmaris and Rhodes, which meant I went to Rhodes in the morning and returned in the late afternoon. Only enough time to wonder around and look at the Castle of the Order of St. John.

I also licked Marmaris because it is closer to 2 places I wanted to visit: Datca and Dalyan. They are both about 1-1.5 hours by domus (small van) from Marmaris.

Rhodes appears to be very nice, that is why I am going back. This time for a week and actually in 2 weeks I will be there. I will be going to the Amalfi Coast then to Athens and to Rhodes. If time allows I may go the opposite way and travel to Bodrum from Rhodes.
