Bodensee area
We are planning about 3 days/4 nights in the Bodensee area, probably based in Lindau. Any recommendations for hotels/restaurants/must sees? Also, it looks like the ferries are an easy way of getting around as we don't want to rent a car. Any opinions? What about rail or bus connections?
Thanks,
Adee

Get a car.

I do agree that you really need a car to get around the Bodensee. Driving in Europe is really not that difficult. You put your car on the ferry to get around the lake. Meersberg is the nicest little town. You might want to consider staying there.

Sorry, I was there awhile ago and do not remember the restaurants. A highlight was the biergarten in Konstanz. Just remember that you pay to rent your glass, plate, cutlery, etc. You get the deposit back when you return it. It actually is a great system and prevents the American style trash problem from paper plates & cups. The first time I encountered this I thought I was being overcharged until someone explained the system.

hi there,
normaly I would agree and say "get a car". But at the Bodensee for 3/4 days I would not. The ferry is a very good and relax way to go arround. And most of the villages You can explore by walking from the ferry station (Konstanz, Ueberlingen, Lindau, Meersburg ...). Also buses/trains are very good in this region.
Must see: Meersburg, St. Gallen (the monastier), the "Pfahlbaumuseum" near Ueberlingen (pre-historic suite). And, if You can make it, do a trip (by train) to the Rhinefall at Schaffhausen.
have fun
Gar

I agree, going by boat really is an option. BTW, I´m living on the island Lindau. For more questions don´t hesitate to contact me. I might be able to show you around on our little island a bit. Peter ([email protected])
