Bodensee - accommodation
 

Anyone recommend a pension/small hotel on the Bodensee (preferrably in or near Meersberg.) Also preferrably with a e mail address. Thanks.

It's been a while since I've visited the Bodensee (1992), and even longer since I lived there, so this is not up-to-the-minute info. <BR>Try the StrandCafe Heinzler or Gasthaus Merck in Immenstadt, or the Traube in Fishbach. <BR>These are about a 15-minute drive east of Meersburg. <BR>The Merck is rather plain, the StrandCafe has a wonderful restaurant, and the Traube is a hotel (a bit larger than a pension) with very nice rooms and a good restaurant. <BR>Hope this helps.

I'm a big fan of the Gasthof zum Bären in Meersburg. When I stay in that area it is usually only for one night and since the zum Bären is a splurge for my budget that is how I justify it. At the website &lt;www.pension.de&gt; I found a nice little place in Uhldingen, which is not far from Meersburg, and only a few minutes walk from the lake. A double for 7 days with a big breakfast is DM310 ($150) per person. It looks to me to be excellent value for this area. The phone number is 07556/6741 and the fax 07556/1505. The use of a bicycle is thrown in. I can not of course vouch for it on the basis of experience, but you can not go wrong with these family-run places in Germany.

Years ago I had dinner in a landmark reaaurant in Meersberg owned by a family named 'Becher' and stayed in a beautiful little Gasthaus that they had just opened. It was like staying in the home of a well to do friend. I looked and found this site: http://people.freenet.de/Edelgard_Becker/english.htm I'm pretty sure this is the same place. I highly recommend it.

Gerhard, I heartily second Ben's recommendation. The Zum Baren in Meersburg is one of the loveliest hotels I have ever stayed in. We were made so welcome and the food was excellent. We had one of the 2 delightful corner tower rooms which are large and nicely decorated. I'll e-mail you a picture I took!

I Stayed in a lovely hotel called the 3 Stuben hotel. I stayed there last summer and highly reccomend it. It is charming and updated inside, we had a guest room with a view of the lake and castle...just lovely. Reasonablly priced.

Here's a third vote for the Zum Baron in Meersburg. We were there last summer - stayed in one of the tower rooms (try to get one!) - and had a wonderful time. They were very helpful and nice.

We were in Meersburg in February but the zum Baren (and most of Meersburg ) was closed.It -the zum Baren, looked very nice and also quiet which can be very important. We stayed in a small hotel one street back from the waterfront called zum Bengel. The accomodation was recently refurbished and spacious. We had the two rooms on the top floor . Each was en-suite and our room had a sitting area overlooking the street and castle. The Summer rate is 60 Euros per room including a good breakfast. There is no website but the phone no. is 075326060.
Whilst there we ate at the Weinstube Lowen (opposite the zum Baren) and the Winzerstube zum Becher. Both were first rate.
