i meant to add i really enjoyed your report! i hope the weather is better next time around, but if it makes you fell any better, it was wonderful to have so much rain this year in the rest of spain.( except for the flooded areas, of course)
the reservoirs were at record lows, so it did a lot of good at the right time.

Thanks Stu--you are too kind.
That cute thing in the red coat even smiles in the rain. She has been hanging around for 57 years now and we will celebrate our 50th next summer. She makes it all worth while. We are thinking about 3 weeks at the lakes---Como and Lugano.

One of my favorite shooting times is when the weather is gray & overcast. The shadows are gone and the light is generally even. And you can get dramatic skies as the storms move.
I can't get back to Europe until May of 2009. I've already booked the flights via frequent-flier miles.
I'll be in the Loire Valley, Lake Como area, and the Assisi/Orvieto area...perhaps down to Ischia.

I enjoyed this very much. Spain is on our list, but our list moves slowly. I only hope the list doesn't outlive us.
Congratulations on the 50 years. We have nearly 40. Both are considered rare these days! Will look forward to the lakes report.

bob,
Thanks for you trip report. As always, lots of good advise. I plan to take this trip a trip to "Green Spain" someday, but living in "Green North America" (Seattle area), know that May can be very very rainy (it was here as well) and know how that can interfere. Still, much terrific information, and I'm going to save this for our trip.

I really enjoyed your report, especially because you included memorable details but didn't list every meal and every flight.
We also stayed in the Hotel Infanta Isabel and also enjoyed it.
I hope to travel to Spain again within the next year or so. I will be traveling alone, so I'm a bit apprehensive about costs. When we were there in 2004, we stayed in quite nice places since we shared costs, but when I travel alone I have to be less picky.

I have been reading the travel reports on Spain and need some help. I might include a visit to Santiago deCompostela before continuing south by bus or train to Portugal. I am looking at spending several days in Algarve and might like to plan at least one stopover enroute from Santiago. I am active retired and like lots of walking in old towns and historic areas. Need hotels close enough to transportation hubs. May look at an apartment hotel resort west of Faro. After Faro to Seville for about 3 days then need to return to Lisbon for last leg of journey to include a few days sightseeing and perhaps a day trip to Fatima. Any suggestions and if this route can be covered in about 13 days. My second consideration would be to take a flight directly to Faro from Dublin and just spend about 6 days in Algarve region (without a car) and return to Lisbon for my return flight. Please help! Thank you.

Thanks for response. I decided to change my route and will now fly from Dublin nonstop to Seville for at least 4 nights. Have not been to Seville on earlier trips to Spain. Then travel from Seville to Faro and enjoy Algarve for about 4 days, then on to Lisbon and do some day trips from there before heading home. I think this will be a better route from reading reports on this board. If I have enough time in Seville to do a day trip any suggestions? I will not make it to Santiago deComp. on this journey but will see plenty if I can cover this new route. Great to get assistance from the expers. Thanks.
