BMW Munich

I'd like to plan a trip with my two sons, 16 and 22, and my husband. The teen loves, what else, cars and the older one is an electrical engineer and musician. We all love the outdoors, as well. I have the idea in my head to start in Munich with a tour if BMW Welt. Then, I am thinking Salzburg and Vienna. I find no posts about BMW. Thoughts? Other suggestions for an itinerary in Central Europe?

We were just there in May - fortunate enough to buy a 328i, pick it up at WELT and drive it around Austria and the Czech Republic for 3 weeks. It was quite an experience! Do go to the WELT Showroom and of course, take the factory tour. We were fascinated by the whole process.
You cannot go wrong with Salzburg and Vienna. Both are beautiful cities. Take in at least one concert at each locale - enchanting! In the Spring we had very wet and cool weather so be prepared. I don't know how long you are planning on going nor your transport. BUT, if you can take a detour to Cesky Krumlov you won't regret it! And then there is Melk Abbey...
So much! Have fun.

The BMW museum is most excellent.

If you go to Salzburg, be sure to tour the salt mine. Your EE son will enjoy that.

I was in Munich with my family in August. Despite the rainy weather, we thoroughly enjoyed our trip. I took my 14 year old son to the BMW Welt and museum. One thing to remember, August is vacation time for many Europeans, so no factory tour for us :( Still, we both really enjoyed BMW Welt and the museum, a great afternoon for anyone into cars.
We also did a day trip to Salzburg. My wife is a huge fan of "The Sound of Music", so she booked us a Sound of Music bike tour, which was a lot of fun. Salzburg is a stunning city. I wish I had set aside a few days for that area.

Thank you. I hope we will have at least 10 days in Europe. I do not know our transport options yet. Alas, I doubt I'll be picking up a BMW in Munich, but what a thrill that must have been.

If you can swing it, the Porsche and Mercedes museums in Stuttgart are great. I liked the Porsche museum better than the BMW museum.

IMHO the Audi museum in Ingolstadt is the most interesting museum of all. Very well done and not overwhelming with too much detail. Audi's racing heritage is much more impressive than BMW's. A great way to spend an afternoon is at the Forum complex with lunch in that beautiful restaurant followed by a tour of the factory. Not as pretty a building as BMW's Welt in Munich, but first class facility all the same.

Do the BMW and Audi tour on your way to Nurenburg. From the train you will see all the Audi's wrapped for delivery in the trains.
