Really enjoyed reading this. You hit some of the spots we did, and really loved, way back in 1984. (Not a typo!).
Your comment about women caught my eye and i found a bit distressing....have been toying with the idea of a solo journey to scotland sometime soon.....wonder if others have had similar experiences...
Anyway, great trip report!

Maybe our servers were just so astute they knew there were two of us and kept waiting for the other half. ?
BTW I didn't mention we met numerous people from various countries and enjoyed talking to theme.
Maybe, our most notable discovery was a couple from Cornwall who were at Taychreggan. Discovered that during the 1970-73 period when we were at San Diego--so were they. DH was in the US Coast Guard--he was in the British Navy--on a sort of loan or transfer to US.

I would think that it was precisely because you were one of a pair that they waited. It would not happen to me. When we travel I always get up earlier than my husband, and I just say, as I go in, that I will not be waiting for him.
Less of an excuse at dinner; they should at least have offered DRRRINK. This IS Scotland, you know?

I have enjoyed your report! On three separate trips to Scotland, I covered many of the same places. Twice I was on my own and never had a problem with being ignored in restaurants or hotel dining rooms.

phew - reddit.
great report, hoping, and I so enjoyed your description of Inverewe, which like Cornwall benefits from the effect of the gulf stream. I WILL get there one day, perhaps on the same trip that I see Bodnant in North wales.
BTW, did your DH ever sit down before you? I suspect that if he had, he'd have got the same treatment!

Wonderful TR! Glad you were able to get the tire replaced, hopingtotravel. To lose so much time would have been terrible. I knew there are palm trees in Ireland, but didn’t realize the Gulf Stream (?) affects Scotland also. Neat.
In Madrid I got wonderful service and that is the only place where I never felt ignored at some point. With DH, not problems (though my order was often not correct!).
Where next?

Please don't take your perceived reception to heart.
There are some fairly parochial characters in The Highlands, some aren't great at social graces.
We had odd experiences at two of the hotels that you used.

TDudette, not sure where next. (In April we saw Savannah and Charleston) so may stay home for awhile. Except for being too hot right now, home is fairly beautiful on a world scale.
I'm a white wine drinker--here at home probably mostly Washington chardonnays. In 1998 on our UK trip I remember so many places only had Riesling if they had a white wine at all. This trip I was pleasantly surprised at the variety of places which had French Chenin Blanc, French white burgundies etc.
