Blue Star Ithaki Ferry and iPad Prepaid SIM
Hi all,
I've got 2 questions. First, I'll be leaving Mykonos Greece on Oct 14 for Athens and taking the Blue Star Ferry. My travel agent purchased my economy ticket before I found out that I'd be on the ferry for FIVE mind numbing hours. I've read in this forum that it's possible to upgrade a ticket. I'd just like to confirm that before I get my hopes up.
Second, I'd love to use my brand new iPad in Greece. I have a 3 hour layover in the airport so I'll have time to go and find a shop to buy a prepaid micro SIM card. Does anyone have any recommendations for the best providers?
TIA!

Yes, you can upgrade to an aircraft-style reclining seat in one of the indoor lounges as well as VIP or Business class lounges. If you want a sleeping cabin you can get one of those if they're still available.
Find the Germanos Store in the Departures shopping area. They'll have what you need as long as your phone is "unlocked" and has quadband capability. You might need to get your service provider to give you the unlock code. To get into the area where the Germanos Store is located you have to show your boarding pass for the ongoing flight.

Further to what brotherleelove wrote:
You can also upgrade your ticket to business class, which has sofas, tables, and a bar with waiter service. A business class ticket is only about €10 more than air seats, and well worth the extra, IMO.
I am writing this on my wifi-only iPad from my hotel in Athens. Most hotels, and many cafes, in Greece now have free wifi for their customers. High-end hotels e.g. Sofitel, charge for the service. You won't need a micro-sim to get online, but it will give you more flexibility.

i stopped by the Germanos store in Departures today, and they do have micro-SIMs for the iPad. The only data micro-SIMs they sell are for the Cosmote network, so that makes your choice of provider easier. You may want to check that 3G coverage is available where you are staying.
If I'm not mistaken, all 3G iPads are sold unlocked, but it wouldn't hurt to check if you bought it through an AT&T contract.

Thank you both for your comments! It does indeed set my mind at ease about the ferry. I'll definitely check on the upgrade as soon as I get to Mykonos. I'm hoping it won't be too crowded in the middle of October.
And Heimdall...beyond words of thanks for your help in checking out the Germanos store!! I didn't get the AT&T contract since I use the wifi at home but I'll be sure to double check before I leave.
