Blue Lagoon showers/amenities before flight home
 

Hello

The day I fly home (8 PM flight) I will check out of my hotel in the morning. Most likely will visit the Blue Lagoon as it's probably the only time I will be able to do so.

After my splash, will I have a place to shower up before flying home? I would assume so but I thought I'd ask.

Yes, they have showers at Blue Lagoon. I can’t imagine sitting on an airplane for hours without having had one. You will need to find something else to do that day after your morning checkout, as Blue Lagoon is near the airport.

Showers are recommended before and after your visit. Warning: the minerals in the water will wreak havoc on your hair. Absolutely use the conditioner they provide; shower and wet hair before your soak and cover your hair with the conditioner. If it is long, then put it in a bun/pony before you head out to the lagoon - they provide additional instructions on this. Absolutely shower afterward, too. You will want to!


I think the visits are timed, if I am not mistaken (unless it has changed, too). So, plan accordingly for your flight.

As mentioned, yes there are showered that you will use before and after soaking in the lagoon. I have long hair and slathered conditioner in my hair before going in, and while my hair did get wet, it was fine. The entry tickets are timed and you are allowed one hour to arrive, but you can stay for as long as you like. If you are done in the water, you can sit in the cafe. There is an area to store you luggage as well, so you should be able to go fro, the BL straight to the airport without having to go back to your hotel for your bags.

Topping this with feedback:

You can do everything you need to do before a flight, at the Blue Lagoon. Based on this experience I would try to go to the Blue Lagoon off peak, though. My first-thing-after-landing worked out well enough, but my departure near noon was pretty packed. I got the "premium" package, one step below "spa package" which offers the private room etc. There is a significant jump in the experience between them for an extra 300 or so bucks, if I were to do it again I would splurge for the top (spa) package. It worked out OK, but it was a pretty "public" experience (i.e. a bit of chaos even with the off-peak time) and I'm just glad I arrived early. I would not do the "public experience" at Blue Lagoon unless I was a resident and came in my own car/had a home to go to afterwards, based on my "premium package" experience.

Contrast with my experience at Sky Lagoon which as a bonus is quite near town, barely 15 minutes by cab. I also got the "premium" package, and, went at 6 PM on Saturday which was quite full of people but the changing room situation was quite quiet and spa-like. You get a private individual shower /changing room with door which has plenty of room to put your stuff, hairdryer is there in your private room, etc etc... I didn't do the "ritual" (which is part of the premium package you pay for) because it was just so very nice to merely soak for three hours. I suspect their version of the "public experience" is similar to the Blue Lagoon "premium package".

Sky Lagoon also had a lot more seating/lying about areas in the water, larger rocks which in winter would help against the winds... and that lovely infinity pool ending which you could just hang your arms over and lol/fall asleep if you wanted.

I would absolutely go back to Blue Lagoon but only with the spa experience, but overall far preferred the Sky Lagoon.

Nice to hear your thoughts. We loved Sky Lagoon! The 7 step ritual was fantastic and I would definitely do that again. I am curious what you mean by "public experience" though at Blue Lagoon?

We are headed back next month for our 4th trip. Looking forward to the lagoons and local pools again!

I don't know, because I didn't buy the public package at the Blue Lagoon. It would have been a "downgrade" from premium, and while premium was OK, it was still too "public" for my tastes. LOL

Four times! What do you focus on, when you visit? Do you pick an area, and thoroughly visit, do you go far and wide? Which is your favorite? Do you always go in your own rental car, or with a tour, etc?

I don’t remember a choice between public and premium at the Blue Lagoon, so I must have been public. The changing room and showers weren’t much different from a gym or public swimming pool in the US.

While in the changing room I noticed an Icelandic telephone directory. Having a Scandinavian surname myself, out of curiosity I picked it up and leafed through it. Much to my surprise, the directory listed names alphabetically by forename rather than surname. Almost everyone in Iceland has a patronymic name, so there are lots of names ending in ‘son’ or ‘dottir’, and they change every generation. I guess it’s easier to look up a telephone number that way. it’s only a trivial thing, but something I remember fondly about Iceland.

Flygirl--Overall we do not do tours. We will do a day tour here and there, but we rent cars and do our own thing. We rented a car and did the ring road last summer. Next summer we have a camper van booked for 10 days just for the Westfjords and then a car for 6 days after that do do Westmann Islands and Thorsmark. We love to hike and go do our own thing, so Iceland is perfect for this! Next month we will have a car again and meet up for an ice cave tour, but not group travel.
