Blue Grotto tour
 

We will be in Positano in September and would like to do a tour of Capri and the Blue Grotto. Has anyone used Lucibello? I don't want a private boat due to the cost so please let me know if you have any other recommendations.

From my observations they're all much of a muchness - you're going to see the same thing, I'd go with whatever you find cheapest when you are over there.

The Blue Grotto is overrated and overpriced but you should feel free to find out the hard way.

The fact is that the small grotto boats outside the Blue Grotto all cost the same and no "tour" boat that circumnavigates Capri actually goes into the Grotto itself, they just connect you with the Grotto boats. Therefore, go for the most bang-for-your-Euro tourboat around the island.

Take your facemask and fins as we do and go in before the boats or when the boats are having a quiet time. If you go with the boats watch the position of the oars and your head. There are some incompetent drivers in that Group. Not as professional as the people from Sea Canoe in Phang Na bay!

I wish you luck with the tides for getting into the blue grotto. I've been to Capri twice and both times was unable to get in, due to high tides. I hope you make it!!

As others have mentioned, the Blue Grotto is already pricey, why hire a tour and pay additional? Just go like the rest of the tourists....you don't miss anything. The boat drivers (?) explain how it came about, etc so I did not feel like I was missing anything. I read up on the Blue Grotto prior, so it just reinforced the information I already knew. It is quite easy to take a boat there: after arriving in the boat Marina, go to the boats for the Blue Grotto (you will see the sign). Costs 8 euros to ride over there and another 7 euros to transfer to small row boat to go into the Blue Grotto. Still, at 15 euros, it is a worthwhile experience despite all the tourist hype. Since it gets crowded, I would recommend making that one of the first things you do once you get on Capri - before the heat and crowds!

We were in Capri in 2000 on an incentive trip. The Grotto tour was paid for.

My wife and I decided to skip it and spend more time on Capri. No one in our group that went said we missed anything. No one said it was a meaningful experience. Guess I will try it someday, but I passed on it when free and never heard anyone on our trip ever even talking about it again.

We enjoyed the entire Blue Grotto experience and did not find it overpriced at all. I guess if you are the type of person to whom the destination is everything and the journey just a hurdle to overcome to reach the destination, then the Blue Grotto, and many other wonderful experiences could be not worth it.

Just the boat ride to the Blue Grotto is interesting and lovely. Then the entire process of getting passengers from the larger boats into the rowboats, getting through the small opening, and finally into the grotto itself was quite an experience.

We thought it well worth the price even though we were in the actual grotto only a few minutes.

I had an especially interesting time as a gorgeous young lady was the one in front of me in the rowboat--I got to know her much better than Mrs. Fly would have liked.
