Blackpool Lights 2011 - Tripping the Lights Fantastic!

Anytone going to England from now until Nov 6, 2011 can take in the Blackpool Lights - one of Britain's most phenomenally popular events, drawing literally thousands of folks each night to ogle the show.

If you have a car you can join the slow-moving parade of vehicles of all sorts along the promenade and if you do not have a car you can hop the fabled Blackpool trams that trundle along the whole course as well - some trams are even sported out in lights themselves. I have always walked the length of the six-mile show and that if fun too!

Blackpool at any time of year to me is a hoot but especially during its fantastically popular Blackpool Lights!

The following is from the Blackpool Lights web site:

<Blackpool Illuminations sees this seaside city of fun still buzzing with excitement and laughter long after other resorts have gone into winter hibernation.

At 10 kilometres long and using over one million bulbs the Blackpool Illuminations are an awesome spectacle.

The Blackpool Illuminations consist of almost every kind of light display you can imagine: lasers, neon, light bulbs, fibre optics, searchlights and floodlighting. In 2010 there were more than 500 scenic designs and features. There are set pieces made out of wood studded with light bulbs: the characters and objects portrayed seem to “move” by way of winking lights. Three-dimensional illuminated scenes are also popular. There are over 500 road features attached to lamp posts linked together with festoon lighting. Strings of lights along the structure of buildings pick out landmarks in luminous detail – you can always make out the Tower and the Pleasure Beach rides in this way."

The official site has lots of great info on the Blackpool Lights and Blackpool itself.

You are nuts:) You do this every year. Blackpool is a dive. There be dragons.

Go if you want, touristy visitors, if for no other reason than the fascination of the awful

sheila - yes yavole - Blackpool is people watching at its worst - or best! But it is one of the most phenonmenally popular events and places in the UK - people visiting a parade of stately houses, castles and the like will not get the view of ordinary English society - warts and all as they will in Blackpool, a place very very dear to my heart.

Oh the great memories of Lights past!

the Blackpool Lights - if going to England in the near future consider popping over to good ole Blackpool - not just another museum or stately house thing but something really British with real Brits, warts and all!
