Black Forest or Rhine/Mosel
 

Hello, looking to fill a couple of days in our August 2025 Germany trip. Thinking either Black Forest (base in Freiburg) or Mosel/Rhine, basing in Koblenz. I have a cousin in Karlsruhe we are planning to have dinner with either at the beginning or end of the two days. What are y'all's thoughts? Thanks!

Personally speaking, I preferred the Mosel to the Rhine. With your Karlsruhe commitment, perhaps the Black Forest is more convenient to base. Schiltach, where we spent a night last September, is a very special place.

By car the Black Forest is more suitable

Both is doable. I would chose the solution that fits better in your Germany trip.

I checked out Schiltach -- a very beautiful town. If we go with Black Forest it looks like it would be a very nice place to stay. Thanks for the recommendation.

My vote is for Black Forest. Just don't bother with Titisee, tourist central.

If you go to Schiltach, be sure to visit the small town museum. One of the best designed museums I have ever visited
