Black Forest Ideas

I'm taking a group of 8 (3 adults and 5 teenagers) to Germany. After a couple of days in Rothenburg, we'll drive (two rentals) to Gutach in the Black Forest, where we'll be staying at the Rotbauernhof farm. I picked that place based on input from this site. Based on the little research that I've conducted, I've found that there's a luge ride next door and an outside museum on the other side. I'm not sure of what else to do while we're in the Black Forest for two days. Any recommendations/must-do's?

Thanks for the help.
Bruce

The Black Forest Museum in Gutach is quite good but knowing some German is a plus.

Take a free train ride on the Black Forest Railway?

Just ask your hosts at the Rotbauernhof for the free KONUS card and you can use trains and buses all across the Black Forest.

I love the little town of Staufen, which is kind of on the edge of the Black Forest. It's really charming and might be a good place for lunch.

Thanks Fussgaenger and Pegontheroad. With that information I should be able to keep everyone happy. Couple of additional questions if you don't mind. Since we'll be near France, what are your thoughts on heading there for a few hours - just to say we did :) Also, I've enjoyed stumbling on local fests when visiting Germany for my job. Do you know how I'd go about finding out if there are fests scheduled anywhere in the Black Forest during our stay there? Thanks again.

Fests:

1. Do NOT click on the English version at the top.
2. Click on EVENTS
3. When the next page with "Veranstaltungen" comes up, look for "translate to" near the top and select English.

France: It's easy to visit Strasbourg from Gengenbach.

Fussganger - great website - thanks!

Follow-up. After Gutach I take the group to Garmish via rental cars. I'd like to break the trip up to make it more enjoyable. What are your thoughts on stopping at Lake Constance (Bodensee) and cruising the lake and maybe touring Lindau or another town? Any other good places to stop along the way?

While we're in the Black Forest, my wife thinks the kids would like to be able to say they also visited France (they've never been). I know that much of the border region is similar to what's found in Germany. Any recommendations on what might be a neat place to visit in France? I'll be headquartered in Gutach and will have a rental car. So...I guess I'd be interested in cool places/towns that are a 2 hour drive or less.
