Black Forest - best town for short stay
Hi! My girlfriend and I will be going to Black Forest in a couple of weeks' time and we would like to know where is a good town to stay overnight in. We are hoping for a location that is convenient for us to explore the Black Forest and I understand that there are free rail and buses in the area. Any suggestions? We will be travelling in from Frankfurt.

Freiburg or, more rural, Hinterzarten near Freiburg would be good places. There are fair connections to all directions, not only into the Forest but also to Basel, which is covered by the Konus-System.

Freiburg does not offer free travel with the KONUS card to guests.
The central Black Forest towns on/near the scenic Black Forest Railway line are easy to reach - look into Gutach (near Hausach on the map below; Vogtsbauernhof open air museum,) Haslach, Schiltach, Villingen, Gengenbach, Wolfach and Triberg, as places of interest for a visit. The last two towns are on the rail line between Hausach and Freudenstadt on the map below. So if you want to visit Freiburg in addition to the other Black Forest towns named above, then of all those nice towns, I'd suggest staying in Gengenbach, which might be the nicest of all anyway. Gengenbach is a KONUS town. Gengenbach: http://www.stadthotel-gengenbach.de/...innenstadt.jpg Schiltach: http://www.orte-bw.de/grafik/uploads..._2010_1040.JPG |
I loved Staufen.

We stayed just out of Freudenstadt & loved it.

Loved both Staufen and Gengenbach!
