Black Forest Advice

Any advice on visiting the Black Forest in DE? I will be driving up from Basel, Switzerland. Not interested in hiking, etc., just visiting clock making region and sightseeing in the next two weeks.

Any ideas???

?'DE'
Deutschland?
Visit Triberg for clock shops, Gengenbach was great (like a mini Rothenburg for Germans), and Gutach has a great 'open-air' museum (centuries-old houses located to site with info in german, english and french).

Seconding Triberg for clock shops. They have some great, mild hiking there too...you're missing out! They have the longest waterfall (in...I'm not sure if it's just the country or what, but it's pretty). You can hike up alongside it.

Sorry, DE is Germany (Deutchland), oops. Thanks to both of you for your advice!!!

I have a 75 year old mother-in-law with a recent hip replacement so hiking is out of the question. We are looking to do a car trip with limited walking. But...... hiking advice once she leaves is appreciated too!!!

The waterfalls at Triberg are not the Niagara but quite pretty. Buy one of those little bags of peanuts they sell at the ticket counter and feed the jay birds and the squirrels. Cute!
At Triberg you'll find all the cuckoo clocks you'll want. They even have "The World's Largest Cuckoo Clock" the size of a house. In fact, there are TWO "World's Largest Cuckoo Clocks" at Triberg...
The real clockmakers' capital is, however, Furtwangen. Visit the Clock Museum (Uhrenmuseum).

And this is the link to the open air museum near Gutach in the Kinzig valley (attention, there is more than one Gutach in the Black Forest), which is named "Vogtsbauernhöfe": http://vogtsen.land-in-sicht.com/index.php. This year they are open all winter for the first time, so you are lucky.
And let me give another vote for Gengenbach. A pretty little town, well preserved.

Freiburg is always worth a stop.

Avoid Titisee, it's a tourist trap.

We were posting simultaneously, Turtleman, so I didn't see your remark about your mother-in-law. So the waterfalls at Triberg are out of the question, as distances are not far but you'll have to climb a steep slope to see them.
