Where would be a good place to stay overnight in the Black Forest? Are there any "must sees" in this area?

I like Oberkirch (low key, small town), but also Baden-Bden (wide spectrum, including high end - - plus a "classier" casino, in my opinion, than Monte Carlo).

"Schloss Neuweier" or "Schwarzwald Hochstrasse" or "Baierbronn"

And these are mostly just the northern end of the Black Forest; others will have their own favorites further south.

The must-sees are "rural charm" as much as (or more than) specific "sights".

The Black Forest covers a very large area, so it's hard to recommend one place for an overnight. It will depend very much on where you are travelling from and to.

Having said that, some attractive towns are Gengenbach and Glottertal, both in the western foothills; Triberg, Sankt Peter, Sankt Margen, and Titisee are in the High Schwarzwald, and interesting places to stay. There are many more, depending on what you are looking for and your itinerary.

In terms of must sees, as rex mentioned, it's really the countryside and the smal villages that are the attraction, but I would suggest a visit to the Open Air Museum at Gutach, which is quite good.

In my opinion there are lots of "must sees" in the Schwarzwald but before recommending some of my favorites I would ask a few questions. (1) How are you traveling - automobile, train, bus?
