Black Forest

Hi all. I was thinking of having a few days in the black forest in November to do a bit of moderate hiking. As I will be travelling by train I was wondering what a good town would be with 3-4 hour hikes easily accessible? I am aware of the weather having lived in Germany a few years. Just looking for recommendations for a good starting point to base myself.

Gengenbach is where I stay but any town on a rail line can work. Town websites usually have a WANDERN tab that highlights hikes in the area

Having lived in Germany you probably know this already, but just to build on big tyke's post, any town or city in Germany has a website with the address " www.[city name].de".

Another laternative is taking the Schauinsland cable car and hiking back to Freiburg, assuming that the cable car is running or that a bus alternative exists.
