birthday dinner in Rome
 

Restaurant suggestion for a 50th birthday dinner in rome. Many are closed in August and we would be there August 1,2 and 3.

what exactly are you looking for in the restaurant. What is your budget? <BR>

We just got back from Rome on Sunday and we had the best meal by far of the trip at Ristorante Al 34 on Via Mario Del Fiore. Excellent food, beautiful atmosphere. We spent about $100 per person with tip (3 courses, wine, dessert, espresso) but that was because my husband couldn't resist getting a $60 bottle of wine that costs double in the states. Beautiful interior too. I can't imagine you will be disapointed.

Al 34 is very good; in the Spanish Steps area one or two blocks down from the square off, between via della Carrozza and via Condotti (?). <BR> <BR>We especially enjoy Girarrosta Toscana up on via Aurelia at the end of via Veneto ... outstanding antipasto brought to table. Hi Ellen, <BR> <BR>Well a 50th birthday in Rome, how fabulous!! <BR> <BR>I live and work in Rome and my personal recommendation is the rooftop garden restaurant in one of the nicest hotels in Rome, The Eden Hotel. <BR>I don't know if it is in your budget (should be) but the food and the view are unbeatable. <BR>The chef there used to cook for Prince Charles and Princess Dianna. Not sure if he is still there, although he was a year ago. <BR> <BR>They will definately be open in August as well. <BR> <BR>If you are interested while you are in Rome, I am an English speaking tour guide and my company offers fantastic tours all over the city. I second Ed's choice of Giarostta Toscana--can't spell it (actually sound like Garostecca Toscana-it's around the corner from the Grnad Hotel across from the Borghese Gardens at the end of the Via Veneto--the antipasti are to die for and so are the roasted portobello mushrooms--it's a grill restaurant and is so great we ate there twice!
