Birthday Dinner in Munich
My husband and I will be in Munich for my birthday (55) and are looking for a nice, fun place for dinner. Nothing really loud but perhaps with some nice music and good food. We will have a transport pass so anywhere in the city would be OK. Looking for the night of April 22nd. I am thinking he needs a little help to make this a special evening!

If you want to avoid loud, I suggest that you skip all of the big beer halls.
What kind of cuisine and what is your budget? |
I had to laugh a little when I read this. I agree about those beer halls as well as any of the restaurants, places like the Hanxbauer with it's pork dishes, due to the seating arrangements.
Unfortunately, it is hard to know about restaurant layouts unless you have been in them. Topping this for you and agree cuisine type is important. |
MY typo...should be the Haxnbauer...anyway, don't go there

They have a very fancy restaurant that is suppose to be excellent. We are beer hall fans, Augustiner every day if I let my husband have his way. |
Thanks for the guidance. I LOVE German food but we plan to visit the beer halls and eat plenty of it during our stay. I am thinking of a top budget of about 150EU for the two of us. Nothing loud, perhaps with some live music like a piano or small trio. As for types of food, European - could be Italian, French etc.
Thanks so much!! |

It is, but at Dallmayer's 150 E. will barely do for one person ... If you like Bavarian food but want to avoid doing it the »brutal« way on your birthday I'd like to suggest either the Marktwirt at the Viktualienmarkt: http://www.marktwirt.com/ or the Spatenhaus near the opera: http://www.kuffler.de/de/spatenhaus.php If you read German you will find a large selection of all types restaurants in Munich on the web site of the Munich paper "Süddeutsche Zeitung": http://www.sueddeutsche.de/thema/Restaurants |
Spatenhaus is very nice, not noisy and the food excellent but still German.
Dallmayer's is over their budget. :( http://www.elitetraveler.com/travel/...ts-in-munich/2 |
