birthday dinner

i'll be in paris with my daughter who will be celebrating her 25th birthday on bastille day - can you recommend a great restaurant for lunch or dinner - we are staying in the louvre area

Hi foo,

What's your budget? Is the food more important than the ambience?

as ira suggests, you could spend anywhere from 40 to 400 euro per person for dinner, so let's narrow it down a little. :)
For the really top $$ places known for finest food and ambiance, you get more bang for the buck at lunchtime.
Also, does it have to be in your hotel's area?

I think Le Train Bleu, the beautiful Belle Epoque restaurant in the Gare de Lyon, would be a lovely place. There is a 43 euro prix fixe dinner, and you can reserve online. www.le-train-bleu.com

I had my birthday dinner there last month, and when they found out that is was my b-day, they put a candle in my dessert (and said I could have any dessert I wanted)and treated all 4 of us to an after dinner drink.

You can reach it by either bus or metro (we've taken bus both times I've been there, from the 6th arr.), or, of course, taxi, which is how we've returned to hotel.

I think the food is very good, and the ambiance is super!

I see that you are new here - - how did I know that? click on your own name (this is one of the numerous useful tips that Fodors fails to tell you when they send you that first e-mail confirming your registration) - - most likely this is the reason you posted this question again. You didn't know how to find this original post you made yeterday!

We might also assume that you have not yet taken the time to read the "HELP" (little tiny red letters in the upper lefthand corner) - - another oversight that Fodors fails to recommend to you to do.

Anyhow, you owe it to yourself to take a look there: http://www.fodors.com/forums/faqs.cfm - - especially http://www.fodors.com/forums/faqs.cfm#Q6 - - which I have listed below, in excerpt form, for you (my own emphasis added):

=========================

Finally, create a title - make sure it is concise and clearly describes your message (<b>and destination</b>, if applicable) -- and write your message in the space provided

==========================

Thus, when you re-post - - and you really <b>should</b> do that (even though you have posted this question twice already) - - be sure and mention <b>Paris</b> in your message header.

Best wishes,

Rex

Lasserre is beautiful and romantic, and the food is both delicious and dramatically presented. The ceiling can be opened to the night sky.

yes - it was the first time i posted - and i couldn't figure out how to find my responses - thanks for the help - i think both ambience and food are important - not that i don't have a budget - but i think between 50-75 euros per person would be good - there will be three of us
