These are great photos and resources! I too am planning a trip -- will actually be flying into Porto, a few days there, then walking a few days on the Camino de Santiago before flying out of Bilbao a few more days later. I'm encouraged to find a couple of days for San Sebastian as well before Bilbao.

Nice big comfortable buses, very cheap (about 6 Euros for the trip). Trip takes about 90 minutes.

I am in the planning zone . I have decided to take a day-trip to Donastia.

Yes Mellen, I love the ALSA buses . So clean , comfortable and, from experience in Andalusia in March, always on time.

Isn't it extraordinary how cheap transportation is in Spain? My entire internal travel itinerary over two weeks, which I booked today (trains & buses), is costing EUR 125, for 10 trips stretching from Bilbao to Toledo. By contrast, ONE-way fare from my home in London to my client near Liverpool costs £125 each time. Spain is certainly beckoning me for retirement!

BTW, I am sure you will love Bilbao. I am deeply buried in reading mode at the moment and have lots of planning sources, so let me know if you would like me to share with you when the time comes. I think I must re-read 'The Basque History of the World' on the journey - I read it when it was first released and loved it.
