Biking in Paris's Latin Quarter Video

Here's a little video I made bike riding through the Latin Quarter. It's in a well known area so I'm sure you Paris lovers will recognize the streets right away. And for those that don't, here's a little something to dream about for your next trip. Click on the link below.

Great, FMT! Thank you! The music is really a nice touch, too.

DaveMM Jul 16th, 2010 05:53 AM

FMT, nice. Where you holding the camera or did you find a way to mount it to your head?

Thanks.

DaveMM

Loved it!

What about telling us the route? I think I recognised Rue Bonaparte, Rue Visconti, Rue Mazarine (saw a parking garage which has an ancient wall in the basement?) but then due to the shaking of the camera I started to feel a little woozy...
Thanks for taking the time to perk us up with a little trip on your bike!

FrenchMystiqueTours Jul 16th, 2010 08:16 AM

sap - Thanks. Isn't that nice music?

DaveMM - This was shot back in November so I'm still holding the camera. Helmet mounted cam available soon.

amamax2 - Thank you!

tod - The trip started on Rue Bonaparte, then Rue Visconti, Rue de Seine, Rue Rue Mazarine, Passage Dauphine, Rue Dauphine then to Rue de Nevers. Sorry about the shakiness but it was a one handed ride. As mentioned, helmetcam coming soon.

I knew it! Only this very day I was reading (again!) Diane Johnson's book - 'Into a Paris Quartier' The aurthor lives on Rue Bonaparte opposite No.5 which has plaques announcing among other things that Eduouard Manet was born there in 1832.
Also among its residents was Napoleon's mother and his sister the Pauline Borghese. Of course Josephine lived at No.1 Rue Bonaparte with her first husband, Count Beauharnais.
Lastly, let me end this brief history lesson by telling you that before Napoleon's time the street was called Rue des Petits-Augustins.

Michel_Paris Jul 16th, 2010 08:34 AM

Cool. Like the music too. Tricky moving with cars on those narrow streets!

Maybe a little overviw of the route you followed? Some looked familiar.

I send you a kir via the ether as a remercement.

FrenchMystiqueTours Jul 16th, 2010 10:23 AM

Notes taken tod. I'm ready for the test.

Michel - Look just above for the route info in tod's first post. I'm trying to get that kir you sent but my computer seems to be having trouble downloading the bottle.

Michel_Paris Jul 16th, 2010 10:41 AM

So I'll hold back sending the bottle of champagne then?

Maybe a tour of "les Iles" next?

tod..good info. I'm interested in stuff like that.

FrenchMystiqueTours Jul 16th, 2010 03:07 PM

Michel - NO! You can send it regular mail! Soon enough I'll give you "les Iles" and a whole lot more.

sap Jul 16th, 2010 08:49 PM

Yes, fab history info, Tod. One can never have too much of that IMO. I've added it to my burgeoning notes & thank you!

kerouac Jul 16th, 2010 10:08 PM

I'm waiting for a bike tour of Chinatown (this is assuming that requests are being taken). ;)

FrenchMystiqueTours Jul 17th, 2010 01:57 AM

Chinatown now added to the list. Any more requests?

Oohlala1 Jul 17th, 2010 02:11 AM

Very nice! Lovely music too. Can you tell me who has sung the first song?

FrenchMystiqueTours Jul 17th, 2010 03:33 AM

The first two songs are sung by Françoise Hardy. The first song is called Au Fond Du Rêve Doré and the second is called Et Si Je M'en Vais Avant Toi. The last song is from a film soundtrack.

tod Jul 17th, 2010 05:58 AM

FMT - Would you believe I have an original 1st issue Francoise Hardy LP! Must be worth something to a collector?!Should I bring it and try and flog it at Vanves??! Joking!
She was my ultimate idol in the '60's. That was as close to French as one could get way back then.

Michel_Paris: Glad you like the historic titbits. I think most people can't be bothered or are totally disinterested in who did what and when! To me it makes the whole thing come alive!

Michel_Paris Jul 17th, 2010 06:52 AM

FMT...
Promenade Plantee/Viaduc des Arts? Also like routes along Seine and over the bridges (bit car heavy though)...maybe Canal St Martin too..

tod,
I collect historical french documents, and actually have a letter from Pauline (and her short brother) and a few sent to Alex Beauharnais... My long term goal is to link ( by visiting) the locations in my collection to today's France. When I walk the streets of Paris, Lyon, etc I feel I'm walking where others I 'know' have also walked.

Oohlala1 Jul 17th, 2010 07:55 AM

Thanks, FrenchMystiqueTours. I love that song...I found the lyrics online.

FrenchMystiqueTours Jul 17th, 2010 10:52 AM

tod - Sounds like you've got a keeper that shouldn't be ?flogged? (slang?). My wife is more familiar with her than I am but we both like her music from the 60's.

Michel - What an interesting hobby. Kerouac has recently done a report on The Promenade Plantée and most of it is off limits to bikes anyway.

Oohlala1 - It is indeed a gorgeous song.
