Big Stupid Mistake! Need Last Minute Paris Hotel!
Big mistake on my part. In reviewing my notes I just realized that I requested a room at the Hotel Jeanne d'Arc for the end of July instead of the end of June when I am actually arriving in Paris. I sent them an email to see if they can accomodate me on such short notice (doubtful, I think).
I want to think ahead a little until I hear from the hotel. Where have you found good last minute rates? I might as well try to use the last minute aspect to my advantage if possible. I hate to use Orbitz and Expedia because I really like staying in small hotels that don't show up on those sites. |
I stayed at the Hotel Bonaparte in the 6th at the end of March, beginning of May, and booked it only 3 weeks in advance. It's worth a try.

Sorry, that should read end of March, beginning of April. Talk about stupid mistakes!

They have an excellent hotel service. We've used them a lot. Last time used Hotel la Sorbonne in the Latin Quarter. Cheap, clean and convenient. Good luck. BTW, have you considered telephoning your hotel? I know the time change makes it inconvenient, but an emergency might make it worthwhile to get up way early to call them. Just a suggestion. ((@)) |
SalB, have you tried to use the www.france.com site lately? I love that site to research hotels, and they have so many good ones (and I especially love the comments from people who have stayed at the hotels). However, recently I can't get anywhere on that site! It is so frustrating - I'm not sure if it's the site or my computer which is screwing up.

I checked www.laterooms.com for example, June 29th, 6 nights, central areas (districts 1-6), and got Villa Pantheon in the 5th district for 140 euros/night until Jul. 5th & 6th when the rate increases to 220 euros/night.
There are alot of other choices so I think you've got a chance of finding a good hotel replacement. |
Last September I booked a hotel for Paris less than two weeks before arriving on www.wotif.com.au Had no problems with the reservation at all and the price was cheaper than that offered by a number of the competing online services. In our case we chose the Hotel des Mines which is on St. Michel Blvd. It is not in the heart of the Latin Quarter - took about 15 minutes to walk down to it propery. Had added advantage of the nearest metro stop was on the RER B lines from CDG airport so no changes to make. It was a 2* hote. Nothing fantastic but clean, furnishings good and room was good size for a Paris hotel with full size bathroom. We chose to pay the little bit more for the twin deluxe rather than the standard which is probably what gave us such a good bathroom. Was lovely to be able to have a soak in the bath after having walked for hours and hours.

Try Residence Les Gobelins 13th arrondissement, near the 5th. Clean, safe, cute, steps from metro. In April it was 53-70 euros a night, you can read my review under hotels. You can reserve online. I booked 3 weeks in advance. Not sure about June. Good luck.

Thanks to all for your quick responses. GREAT suggestions I am currently pursuing. I'll let you know how my self inflicted drama plays out.

Sue4, Yes, I visit the site daily. It's probably my favorite French web site. They had a computer problem a couple weeks ago and it was a nightmare. It's fixed now and you should have no trouble. (I must admit it was easier to use several years ago, but I've gotten used to the changes.)
I love reading the reviews. Some people get upset at the strangest things. It's really funny. When I'm searching hotels, I read all (or nearly all) the reviews and then toss the extremes on either side. It gives you a great overview. I've also gotten some excellent restaurant ideas from reviewers who mention nearby places to eat. ((@)) |
if your not picky about the accomodation then try one of the hotels that the IBIS chain belongs to (can't remember name sorry). I rarely book accomdation because i'm never picky.
|
Ibis is in the Accor chain. Something would certainly be available through them. http://www.accorhotels.com
Ibis Republique and Mercure Raspail are both air conditioned and economical. |
Try also bookings.org
They have pictures, and quite detailed descriptions of the available hotels, as well as some promotional rates. |
Surlok, Where have you been. You haven't poated in aa long time.
Are you still in So. America> |
Hi, Mimi!
Sometimes I take a break from posting.. to give Fodorites a rest from me... I'm still in Rio de Janeiro, yes! |
Got a reply from Hotel Jeanne d'Arc. No rooms available on such short notice. I only need a room for three nights as I then move into an apartment in the 5th for a week. Sooooo, I am thinking of upgrading to a more expensive hotel. After alot of quick scanning on the web I have come down to Golden Tulips Opera de Noailles in the 2nd or the Villa Pantheon in the 5th. Both get high marks from former guests. I'm leaning toward Villa Pantheon as I'm tempted by it's location near the Seine and the Iles.

The Villa Panthéon has had good reviews.
