Just one more point: I could also fly from Stockholm to St Petersburg and then take a train to Tallinn and a ferry to Helsinki. But I was told that the ferry crossing from Stockholm to Tallinn is a must.
Thanks a lot.

Hi gpm:

Sounds like a great trip. I will be interested to hear about your adventure when you return. I am planning a trip to the Baltics in mid October and early November and taking a few tips from you and your helpful posters.

OK. I will let you know.
Any advice on this change in the itinerary (ending in Helsinki instead of St PEte)?

Think you will be sorry you didn't have another day in Helsinki.

I would cut one night from Stockholm and add one night to Helsinki. You will get in to Helsinki about noon from St P and the next day will be getting ready to fly home.

I think it would be better to take the ferry from Stockholm to Helsinki - do a day trip to Tallin - and take the train to St P and fly home from St P.

Or take the train round trip to St P and back to Helsinki if the cost of the airfare is greater flying out of ST P.

You will be back tracking with your plan.

Another idea if you insist on STockholm to Tallin is to skip Helsinki because it is just a lot more train travel without much benefit of the short time in Helsinki.

Or take the ferry from Stockholm to Tallin - take an evening ferry to Helsinki and go to St P from Helsinki.

HI GPM,

I am planning a similar trip in August 2016. I am taking your itinerary as base :). Can you provide me with your final itinerary and feedback.

@ girisha -- you have added to a thread that is almost 8 years old. You might want to start a new thread.

girisha: Welcome to Fodors, gpm won't see your question -- he hasn't posted on Fodors in years. As kja says, it is better to start a thread of your own.
