Big birthday Trip in Europe - where to go?

I have a big birthday coming up in September and have about 6 nights to spend in Europe [we live in the UK] The restrictions are that it needs to be a direct flight from either Bristol or Exeter [we live in Cornwall], not too hot [rules out southern spain, which I have lined up for October, and most of Italy] and somewhere new. So far my list is
Barcelona
Southwest France [flight to Toulouse on Easyjet]
Nice [ditto]
Marseilles [to see the southern Provence and the Camargue].
Berlin [plus Dresden & Leipzig as we have been to Berlin before]
At the moment it will just be my BH and I as the kids [19 & 15] will have to stay home to look after the animals as our usual house sitter is on her own hols. [any OP's fancy house/dog/donkey/chicken sitting? - cornwall should be lovely in September]
If it's just the twqo of us, i don't mind traveling around a bit, but I don't want to spend all out time on the move. Where would you go? Thanks in advance for all your great ideas!

Since you've already go a trip planned for Spain in October, I would go for Berlin to Dresden, etc. If your trip is planned in early Sept., Nice, Toulouse could still be pretty hot.

Congrats on your birthday! Just curious, what is BH? Big Husband? Bad Husband? ;-)

Hi Ann,

Would you be interested in a motor trip?

Arrive Toulouse - 1 day for Toulouse, 1 day for Carcassone.

Drive to St. Chely du Tarn via Albi and the Gorges du Tarn - overnight in St. Chely at the Auberge du Cascade.

Drive to Conques - 2 nights at the www.moulindecambelong.com/

Return to Touluse via Figeac and Cabrerets - see Peche Merle.

Driving times and directions are at www.viamichelin.com.

More details in my trip report: http://fodors.com/forums/threadselec...2&tid=34676645

ON SECOND THOUGHT: Do the trip in reverse.

IRA - Thanks for the ideas - spot on as always. I'll try to look at the trip report when I've got more time, but the hotels look great.
BTilke - BH = "better half" [but I don't know if i don't prefer your suggestions!]
Thanks for the idea you're probably right about the temperature in Toulouse, but at least you've got the coast - on current showing Berlin could be warmer.

How about Santorini, for romance, relaxation and beautiful views and sunsets - I think there are charter flights from Bristol. In September the Greek islands are warm enough but there should be a lovely breeze to cool things down

I'd go for Toulouse myself. There's an article on the city in this month's "french" mag (that's a UK mag for the avoidance of doubt)
