Bidding Sites for Destinations in Europe
Are there such sites (like Priceline) for destinations in Europe?
|
Didn`t I read that priceline is now doing Europe?
|
www.skyauction.com (I assume that they are still in business - - or is that "bid'ness"?) has always offered flights and packages to Europe.

Best wishes,

Rex
|
Mary,
Instead of coming here and asking a stupid question, why didn't you just go to PRICELINE, and surprise, find that they do indeed do Europe.
Folks, please do the obvious research yourself, before flooding these boards with idiotic questions. I'm sure many are getting tired of reading the same s..t over and over. Use this board if you have a genuine question and/or a review/observation, etc....
|
Give Mary a break. She did not ask a stupid question. We're here to share information, not jump all over people. If you don't like the question, please just move on to another post.
|
Diane,
You don't consider that a stupid question? All she had to do was to check PRICELINE, and wholla, there it is, a European section. She specifically asked if there was a European version of PRICELINE. Again, we're all here to help each other, but if you could take 10 minutes to type in Fodors.com and your question, why can't you type Priceline.com, if that's what you are interested in. Now, if she asked a general question about discount brokers, then one has to assume she did not know about any of them. I would be the first one to try to help.
Come on people, let's get it together!!!
|
I believe she was asking whether there are alternative sites to Priceline. Quite a reasonable question. What a silly criticism considering the junk that now predominates this forum.
|
Dear Just: If you don't want to answer the question, because you are so busy and don't want the "lines" flooded, why do you take time to write a long and involved "jerk" answer? You need a life; in your words: "Come on people; let's get it together". To everyone else who hoped to help Mary, aren't you glad you don't know or have to work with some of these people?

I will have to disagree. These boards are not meant to replace search engines. To find a hotel broker in Europe all one has to do is pick a good search engine. Now, if Mary asked about experience with AAA Hotels, or BBB hotel broker, or CCC airline that's where the beauty of internet and especially travel boards like this kicks in. It's the average traveler like you and me that possibly experienced the location, hotel, cruise, airline, travel agency, etc, etc.... and share their experiance with the rest of us. So please don't bring this down to a basic search engine.

JustA:
What does "wholla" mean???
|
JustA, since we're all here to help each other as you say, it's voila, not wholla. Sheesh!
|
Just, you certainly have some problems. You're frustrated and taking your frustration out on others when you can just as easily skip over a thread and not respond to it. Possibly you are using this forum to display your frustration because you have either been abused or you are an abuser. However, what you have done is rant in your responses, and have not provided any substantive assistance. You also don't have to be arrogant. You don't own this board, or even pay a fee to use it, so why are you complaining?

Secondly, you have a reading comprehension problem. Mary did not ask if you can use Priceline to bid for travel in Europe. She asked if there are any sites similar to Priceline for Europe. Besides skyauction.com as Rex has mentioned there are also a few other auction sites (and I wasn't even considering Ebay), such as Lufthansa, which auctions off some of its flights.

People who use this forum (excluding trolls) are here to obtain good information and also here to share good information. Just, all you have chosen to do is lecture, and not provide one iota of worthwhile information to this thread.

Possibly, you have responded a number of times because you like to see your words in print. If that is the case, why not just open whatever word processing program you have installed on your hard drive, and type the phrase "I will not take my frustration out on others." I think you should type it about 1000 times and then try doing something else that's constructive. However, if you want to save time, I suggest that after you type the sentence the first time, that you either cut and paste it the remaining times or else create a macro. For that matter, since you must be aware of other sites similar to Priceline that will provide Mary with a satisfactory answer, please share them with us. And after you have done that, I suggest that you create your own travel website where you can maintain control.

<<These boards are not meant to replace search engines.>>

I take strong exception to this statement. This forum is intended to welcome every conceivable kind of request for information about travel to Europe. Almost every question you can think of can lead to useful - - sometimes, admittedly tangential - - information that is interesting and helpful to the original questioner, and to all readers.

There is nothing wrong with teaching questioners about websites they might want to use in the future. For example, a question like "how much driving time from A to B" virtually begs for "instruction about ViaMichelin, Mappy or Shellgeostar - - the questioner will surely think of more driving questions, and it only makes sense to know where to find the answer to other related questions.

But it's rude, offensive and crazy to bash anyone - - newbie or not - - because the answer can be found elsewhere on the internet. And when such bashing is done anonymously, it would be a good reason for Fodors to try to restrict that person from coming here.
A very good European Hotel consolidator is Hotel!Hotel! in London at 011-44-1372-46-4488. I've used them twice and have saved a lot of money. 3 star hotels and up. Another European condolidator is Intl. Marketing and Travel Concepts in Atlanta which covers most of Europe. 800-790-4682 or 404-240-0949. Haven't used them personally but learned about both companies through Consumer Reports Travel Letter.

Just so this does not go on forever, I will say goodnight now.
You all win.
When this board becomes a glorified search engine, don't call me.
|
You can be sure we will NOT call you. Don't let the door slam you in the ass as you leave.
|
Mary, see http://www.priceline.co.uk/

Read the FAQ because it differs somewhat from the US Priceline.
|
Mary if you decide to use priceline, go to biddingfortravel.com first. The site will tell you what hotels priceline uses with reviews and the most recent winning bids.
