Bicycle tours in France
Well this will be my second post as we seem to be getting a little closer to knowing what we want to do. Wondering now if anyone has had any experience with individuals who organize bike tours in France - would prefer someone local as opposed to a travel company but any info. would be greatly appreciated. Would like to do one week probably in the Loire valley - either day trips and returning each night to good food and comfort or do a "line" and have our baggage transported to each destination. Thanks for any help and/or suggestions!

Barb,
Contact the Federation Franaise de Cyclotourisme at 8 rue Jean-Marie Jego 75013 Paris, tel: 01 4580302. It offers itineraries with mileage and sights to visit. You might also pursue the Federation Francaise de Cyclisme, 5 rue de Rome, 93561 Rosny-sous-Bois, tel: 01 49356900 If you contact the local or regional tourist offices, you can get a listing of cycle rental companies.

Barb: Just got back from a bicycle trip to Bergundy with 5 others. We organized it through Randonee Tours,www.randonneetours.com.We were on our own without a guide.Written instructions and maps were excellant.Accomodation was great.Self guided tours are available through other regions in France as well. Good luck Art

I have a website for an English couple who organize family bike tours in Brittany, France. I have never been on one of their tours, but they were very friendly when I e-mailed for a brochure. The site is: www.cycling.uk.com/holidays/bretonbikes.htm
(I think the couple actually lives in Brittany, but maintains business connections in England, which explains the website.)

Hi Barb,
I hope you enjoyed your trip in Burgundy, I am a tour guide on a hotel-barge, cruising on the Nivernais Canal near Auxerre, you may have seen us your travels. I saw that you are interested in taking a cycling tour in the Loire, have you concidered combining that with barging? We operate barges in France, England, Scotland and Ireland, on of which (accomadating 6 passengers) is in the Loire (the Nymphea). Look us up on WWW.gobarging.com, and if you are just curious for more information from a tour guide, drop me an email: [email protected]

Wow, you folks never cease to amaze me! How did I ever plan a trip before Fodors.com? Thanks for the input and I will be sure to check them all out. The only reason I thought the Loire would be suitable is that the terrain is flat and the biking easy. Not sure about other districts ie. Burgundy or Brittany but if anyone has further input, feel free with many thanks!
