bicycle museum in Paris?
Has anyone heard of a bicycle museum in or around Paris? We think there is one but aren't sure, looking for one that shows the history of bikes, modern cycling, etc. If you could let me know location too, that would be great! <BR>Thanks.

no, the only ones I found mention of are in the Perigord area in Cadouin (Musee du Cyclotourisme) http://www.perigord.com/ot.buisson-de-cadouin/tourisme.htm<BR>and one in the Burgundy area near Macon (Musee du Velo) http://museeduvelo.free.fr/<BR><BR>There is or was a Sport Museum in the 16th, which might have something but I've never heard of anyone going there<BR>http://www.paris.org/Musees/Sport/info.html<BR>http://www.mobydoc.fr/utilis/paris/parissport.html

Best bicycle museum I've seen is in the Chicago Museum of Science and Industry

Don't know of any in Paris. I've visted the bicycle museum in Cadouin. Cute older couple own and run it. They have traveled all over the world for their collection.<BR><BR>They know everything, and I mean everything, about how each improvement of the bicycle came about.

The best bicycle museum in France is about 2 hours from Paris, near Alençon. The place is called la Fresnaye-sur-Sarthe, the Museum "Le Musée du Vélo". Mainly covers competitive cycling and in particular the Tour de France with bikes and jerseys of the competitors from 1903 to date, and video displays. It's superb. See here: http://bit.ly/as7wC1

As I recall, we stayed in a very nice B&B near there and at breakfast talked to a Belgian couple who came to the area just to see that particular museum. Eddy Merckx was one of the husband's heroes.
