Biarritz/San Sebastian area

My husband and I are going to spend 3 or 4 days in and around San Sebastian, driving down from Paris. Our purpose is to eat at some great restaurants in San Sebastian, but thought it would be nice to stay along the coast somewhere, in either Spain or France. We aren't really beach people but I do love being near the ocean. Don't want busy/crowded/a scene-more quiet, laid back, pastoral. Any ideas on where we should look?

St-Jean-de-Luz!

I will check that out-what do you like about it? Can I get something really nice for around $250?

I'm in SS right now, typing to you from the Hotel Maria Cristina, a Starwood Luxury property. I have a view of the Atlantic, the beach and Old Town are steps away. From what I see this is the nicest hotel in town and to prove it the Rolling Stones - yes - THE Stones checked out this morning. A nice sized king room is costing me 205 euro/night.

Well, sure you can get something nice in St-Jean-de-Luz for around $250: cool beachwear, a lovely painting done by a local artist, some of those beautiful Basque linens, boxes and boxes of their well-known chocolates...oh, did you mean a hotel room? Sure, google the Hôtel Maria-Christina.
