Biarritz? Cheapest way to get there

Hello,
I have tickets to Paris in July and return from Madrid. in between I want to go to Basque Country...whats the cheapest way for me to get from Paris to Biarritz/San Sebastian region? the train seems like a good option, its $100, but the timing isnt good at all...departure from Paris is at 12, and arrival in Biarritz is 5pm..basically killing the whole day.
Anyone have any other suggestions?

There are a couple of earlier trains than the one leaving around noon.

I used the Bahn site as ekscrunchy has recommended.

You could also check on www.voyages-sncf.com (click on the English flag at the lower left)

are there any budget airlines in France?
i can get airfare for Paris to Biarritz roundtrip for $220...but I don't need roundtrip, and one-way price is double. Or are there any trains that go overnight to this area?

Where are you originating? Also check flights from Paris to Bilbao; there may be more options. From Bilbao you can easily go by bus to San Sebastian and further on, to Biarritz.

90 days before your scheduled trip between Paris and Biarritz look to see if you can get a cheap fare on http://www.sncf.fr/indexe.htm. For train or airfares within the European community I do not think that you need to do it much earlier than that, unless you can find a discount airline that will give you a longer lead time.

Air France has an internet sale for domestic and European flights every Tuesday at midnight (Paris time). It is for travel the following week.

I was trying to check www.voyages-sncf.com for a random train date within 2 months, but the system is down. So it gave me a flight proposal at 88€ instead -- for an non direct flight (but I didn't look to see where one had to change planes -- probably some strange regional carriers).

I'll keep looking for airfares under $120..but so far the best bet seems the rail, leaves at 7:15am and arrives in Biarritz at 12:30!
Thanks everyone, I'll keep checking in if anyone has any more valuable info!

I took the Corail overnight train from Paris d 23.14 to Hendaye a 07.32. With a Eurailpass the ride was "free" and I paid €23 for a bunk in a sleeperette. Excellent train. You save a hotel night cost and don't waste any day time.

From Hendaye take the Eusko Tren to San Sebastian for €1.50.

SShprints,

Kerouac is probably quoting a PREM price which is available not more than 90 days in advance. Which is why you cannot necessarily find the cheapest fare at this moment for a July trip.

Yes, the French TGV and other high-speed trains are air-conditioned, although perhaps not as cool as you might want. To find PREM tickets, I believe that you muct you the SNCF's own site.

I said it was a Prem's fare when I quoted the fare. Bookable a couple of months ahead of time on www.voyages-sncf.com. Ticket printable on your computer at home.
