Beziers or Narbonne?

Or both for a day trip ? Staying inland from both, will have a hire car, equidistant from both.

I enjoy both.

Beziers has had some recent regeneration to improve the more run down areas.

Narbonne has interesting roman remains.

Don't forget Pezenas, Minerve and the Cathar castles !

We have stayed two times in a gîte outside Pézénas and really enjoyed the active, but laid back, feel of Bézier. They have a very active cultural program with various concerts, readings, plays etc. and very good restaurants on the Allées Paul Riquet. I love the old town, the (former)Cathedral St. Nazaire and its view over the valley at sunset. We saw Verdi's 4 Seasons performed live there= Wow!factor with all the sculptures etc. The 7 (or is it nine?) locks of Fonsérane are very enjoyable way to spend an afternoon and have a drink.

I haven't been to Narbonne, just passed by, so can't offer much there, but if you do a further search here someone did a very nice report on it some time back.

Marko, where will you be arriving from? Via train, plane? If you'll be driving from another area, there are a lot of things to see along the route.

Staying in Olonzac, a small village. We will have a car so I was even thinking about seeing both if it was doable without rushing ( I am on holidays ! LOL )
