Best Wine Skin / Carrying Bag for Bringing Back Wine
OK, yeah, I know... don't bother bringing it home. :-)
Even my DH, who is a French wine junkie, has told me (rather emphatically) that he won't feel compelled to bring any wine home since he knows he can easily find fabulous Chinon and Loire Valley wines here in any number of our local wine shops. But.... just in case we find a bottle of something really magnificent that can't be found here or he changes his mind and wants to bring home 1-2 special bottles, I was thinking of buying just a couple of those wine skins (or some other brand) to keep in the luggage should the need arise. I'd love to get your advice on the most reliable wine sleeve, wine skin, bubble wrap system for bringing home a few bottles from our trip, should the need arise. Thanks! |
We always use the Wine Skin actual brand. I do like them because they fill with a little air around them and we have never had a problem. I have used bubble wrap and only had breakage once.
The cheapest that I have found the Wine Skin brand is on Amazon. We mostly use them for champagnes from the small houses that are not available locally. |
We use the wine skin brand also. Never had a problem. I have even packed our own wine ($40 bottle of local wine) to Turkey (5 different flights). Brought wine back to the US from New Zealand one time. I tend to wrap the wine skin with clothes and place in the middle of the suitcase.

I second the Wine Skin. Have used m any times and no breakage.

The French Post Office has a shipping box for wine, which can be mailed within France. We used one (9 bottles) and put it in our checked luggage with no problem.
If you want to really protect your valuable wines, then you may want to use something from Wine Cruzer (www.winecruzer.com) |
My suitcase has red wine stains on it from some idiot who put wine in his checked bag surrounded only by some clothing. Please do not put wine in your checked bags. If you don't care about your own things then give a thought to other people who may not appreciate the spilled wine.

Thanks, folks. I appreciate the help. I will probably just have a couple of the wine skins in my luggage. Just in case.
