Best Western Hotel Elefant?

Can anyone give me information on their stay at this hotel in Salzburg? Also, was this location a good one, as opposed to the other side of the river near Mirabell Gardens? Also, which of these would be best? Top Hotel Mozart or the Amadeus?

We stayed there for four days in February of 2004. The location is excellent. You are on one of the mostly pedestrian streets in the Salzburg old town. The room was spacious by european standards and comfortable. The staff was very helpful. I thought the price was a little high. Mirabell is across the river from the old town and not as convenient to the sights.

We stayed at this hoel a couple of years ago. The location is very convenient for the "old town" but our room was NOT large in any way, shape, or form...barely had enough room to move around and the "window" was into an elevator shaft.

Staff was very nice and breakfast was good.

I would probably not stay there again. There are other hotels that are close enough to this part of Salzburg, the Crown Plaza, is one of many examples, that have larger rooms.

I too stayed at this hotel, back in 1998. I found this hotel in a book of hotels I found in Vienna and being it was last minute we couldn't finid another hotel.

We were charged the most expensive price listed so we assumed we would have the best room.

Our room turned out to be the smallest room I have ever stayed at and not very interesting. No view etc. Mentioned it at the front desk in the morning that I thought the room was extremely over priced, expensive and just received a smile.

Would stay somewhere else.

Also stayed at the Amadeus on the other side of the river. We found our hotel adequate and within reason for the price. Would stay there again as it is more within line of what you pay for is what you get.

All these areas are very close and within walking distance.

I loved the Hotel Elefant and thought it was wonderful. I can't remember when I was there exactly (sometime in last five years), but my room was quite large and very comfortable and nice. The bathroom was really nice, also. I did not have the most expensive room category, either. I didn't think it was expensive at all for that level of hotel in comparison to other hotels in Austria and tourist cities like that. I remember being surprised how cheap the room was (I think I paid about US$100 for a double room, which was about the same I paid for a pension in Vienna).

The location is excellent and very convenient, the only slight problem was that because of the narrow streets, tall buildings, and pedestrian popular area, it could be a little noisy at night due to the folks who go around speaking at loud volumes, especially younger folks. That would be a problem anywhere in the central area, however. I had a nice enough view, in fact, I remember it being very pretty (sky and church and rooftops).

I don't know what size rooms others got, but I was alone and my room was huge (It was a regular double-sized room).

Stayed at the Best western Zum Hirschen for three nights recently. We were pleased with the "family room" which was separate bedrooms, common entrance, split bathrooms. 149 euros/nt Even though this hotel was not in center of city, it was just a 12-15 minute walk to the center square. We never used public transportation. It was quiet and a.c.
