Best web site to book Paris hotels?
Will be back in Paris over New Years. Where is the best site to find Paris hotels? 2-3 stars any suggestions for nice hotels & how to book is appreciated. We need little easy walking due to bad senior knees. Thanks

Some web sites that come to mind are:
www.hotelboulevard.com
www.paris.org
www.bonjour.com
I also have dozens of web sites bookmarked but in order to hyperlink those to you, you would need to e-mail me directly.

The above is the link I have consulted so far to select a hotel. It is quite comprehensive with many, many listings.
To make the reservation, I either email or call the hotel directly. Of course I make sure that English is one of the listed languages.
At the smaller hotels, week day hotel staff members who work between the Paris hours of 9 and 5 are often the most competent to deal with reservations questions. But that is of course a statement to which exceptions are bound to exist. The Muguet is a 2-star that has gotten high reviews on this forum.
But Paris is full of excellent, small hotels (35 - 70 room range).
I had good luck with email last year. I even changed my room to a nicer one that way.

I would recommend www.france-hotel-guide.com, www.hotelboulevard.com, www.paris-hotels.com, and www.webscapades.com as good places for budget/mod. priced hotels which have good information and descriptions--if you start with those, I don't think you will get overwhelmed and they have good search tools. As for the walking thing, all I can recommend is stay near good transportation, espec. a good bus route, as metro stations can involve a lot of walking. espec up and down stairs (the La Cite stop is really scary), not just flat. It's hard to know if you don't know the city well, but if I were you, I would thus avoid budget hotels in the 5th around the Maubert/Censier metro stops, for one place. Actually, I might suggest a hotel near the Pantheon and Luxembourg RER stop might be good for you--that metro stop has an escalator and it is fairly flat walking around there; there are some bus connections right in front of Luxembourg Gardens, also, which are within walking distance. Some good hotel choices there might be the Hotels du Pantheon or St Paul (3-stars), or Jardin du Luxembourg (2-star, I think); there are several other 2-star budget hotels around there. There are several good budget hotels around there. That is just one location suggestion, though, many areas would work for you. Another good choice might be around place St-Sulpice in the St-Germain quarter (eg, Hotels Relais St-Sulpice, H de l'Odeon) There are several good budget hotels around there. You might also like the 7th arr., that is pleasant and sedate and has good value hotels (it's near the Eiffel Tower and Les Invalides)--just be careful you pick one near a metro stop as some hotels can be 4-5 blocks from one--I'd suggest the Hotel du Cadran or Bourdonnais, for example, near the Ecole Militaire metro stop; more budget would be Hotels Champs de Mar or Muguet near there. If you stay in these central areas, you can easily take cabs, also, if you need, without any great expense. One advantage of the www.webscapades.com booking site is that they give you very good maps of the quartiers with their hotels marked on them and metro stops marked, also, so it is easy to hone in on ones most close.
