Best Way to Reach Capri

Hello,
We are making our way to Sicily and are spending one night in Capri and one night in Ischia before flying from Naples to Palermo. How do the ferries to reach Capri work? I've heard conflicting reports on the safety in Naples, should we be super stressed out about pick pockets and muggings, or just use common sense? My husband and I speak intermediate Italian but we will be carrying our luggage with us to the places we have to go. Any input from someone that has gone would be appreciated. Thanks

You always have to pay attention for pick pockets and muggings, where ever you go! Yes, also in Naples, but not more as in Paris or New York, what I mean is that in every big town there are criminals and you always have to pay attention, as a tourist more, but you do not have to be afraid...

Just use normal precautions in Naples. No need to be overly concerned. But it doesn't sound as if you'll be spending a lot of time there, unless I missed something.

Use same precautions you would use in any big city. I don't find Naples to be any more intimidating than Rome or Barcelona.

Take ferries from the dock. Look up times and prices online.

Important point of caution. Give yourself plenty of time to get from Capri to Naples just in case there are delays of any kind with the ferry. Do not wait and take the last ferry that seems to fit your schedule. Seriously, give yourself some leeway.

Take a taxi or the Alibus to the airport. Allow minimum of 45 minutes from port to airport. It can take less time, but more likely to take even a bit more. Alibus is cheap and stops very close to the airport entrance, but it is a pain to drag much luggage onto the bus. A Taxi shouldn't be, but can be, expensive. They like to take a circle road, but I worry more about a traffic holdup there than just going through the city.

it seems to me that you are making things unnecessarily complicated.

IMO it might be easier to stay in Naples and do day trips, but if you want to stay on Capri, why not stay there both nights and do a day trip to Ischia? there is a ferry which seems aimed at this:

Then at least you won't be lugging your luggage around all the time.

Have you ensured that you can get back from Capri in good time to catch your plane to Palermo?

Thanks annhig that is actually a good idea, I think I was trying to be a little ambitious. I'm going to move things around and just stay on Capri and do a day trip to Ischia.

Personally, I would just spend both nights and days on Capri.

www.capri.net for ferry schedules and information
