Best way to get from Pisa airport to Florence

We are flying into Pisa airport and going directly to Florence. Is there a train between the two? Is that the best option? How much would a cab cost?

Train would be cheaper than a cab, but I'm unsure of the exact cost. We were recently diverted there, instead of landing in Florence as planned, and we thought of taking either a cab or train to continue our journey. We were told a cab would be about $75 or more, whereas the train was much cheaper, although I don't know the exact cost.

We ended up taking the chartered Air France but since it was free of charge. and arrived fairly quickly.

If it were me, I would take the train as long as I had manageable luggage. It would be more cost effective, but I'm unsure how you would do it from the airport.

Hopefully someone else will have more insight.

Hi swalter,

There are many trains from **Pisa Aeroporto** to Florence. See www.trenitalia.com.

It's about 70 km from Pisa to Florence. A cab is going to be expensive. A limo is about 200E.

Thanks Ira. For some reason, none of the guidebooks I had addressed how to get to Florence from the airport!

I just checked out the website-would you advise buying train tickets in advance?

No. It's a IR train with no reservation service.
You'll board at the first station of its route, then run through Pisa and up to Florence in about 1 1/2 h.
Fare is 4.95€ second class. 7.45€ first class.

There is a train station right at the Pisa airport. You can buy tickets in the airport. Last October, there was a train every hour or so. It's inexpensive and very easy to do.
