Best way to get from Naples to Sicily
Hey everyone,

Do y'all know the best way to get to Sicily from Naples?

Thanks
|
By public transportation: there are four choices (time is with reference to arrival in Palermo):

1. Fast train (Intercity) in 9 hours
2. Overnight ferry (10 hours)
3. Hydrofoil (5 hours, summer only)
4. Airplane (45 minutes)

Where would I get Hydrofoil schedules?
|
I think one of the cheapest ways is to go with a ferry. I believe one of those organisations is called SNAV. You only cannot take a car with you then.
|
The hydrofoil operates daily from April 12 to October 8 (but not on days with bad weather). Departure from Naples at 17:30, arrival Palermo at 22:00. Fare ranges from approx. 50 to 80 Euro per adult, depending upon month of travel (or day of week). This is a very large hydrofoil which seats hundreds of persons. I have read a few comments that the ride can be a bit noisy (given the speed of the boat and crashing of waves). The late afternoon departure allows for easy connections from Rome and points north (or from towns around the Bay of Naples such as Sorrento and Pompei).

CORRECTION: the "hydrofoil" from Naples to Palermo is actually a catamaran, which displaces 5000 tonnes and carries 800 passengers and 200 vehicles. It runs daily from April to October, but not in rough weather. Voyage takes 4.5 hours. It is sometimes referred to as "Sicilia Jet". Further information in

www.snav.it or
www.snavali.com
