Best way to get from Italy to Paris
Hello fellow fodorites! I'm still working on my itinerary and will post it shortly. I need you advice. What's the best way to get from Rome to SML and then from CT to Paris. How long would it take on a train vs plane? I'm having difficulty navigating the train schedule. Also, any recommendations for airlines. I've already checked ryanair, easyjet, etc. but they don't fly to these spots. This is the missing piece to my trip, in addition to nailing down hotel reservations which has turned out to be a monumential pain!!!!! Is everyone traveling in September;). Certainly appreciate any feedback you have. Ciao Ciao!

nunz I won't comment on Rome to SML accept to say that we drove and it was fine for us. DH really likes to drive and we did a lot of driving on that trip. But I have been researching our trip that includes both CT and Paris and see that there are flight options from Pisa and Nice that are relatively inexpensive. I've found very good information on whichbudget.com and EasyJet.com |
hello Tuscanlifeedit! I've read a lot of your postings and they are very helpful. How long was the drive from Rome to SML? I will check the Pisa to Nice connection. So I'm guessing I would train from CT to Pisa and then fly from there to Nice, yes? Is a train ride then from Nice to Paris? Any idea how long that is? Sorry, so many questions and so little time. I have had so much trouble finding hotels that I'm totally stressed out at this point .... he he. Thanks again...

Have you checked flying from Genoa to Paris on Which Budget?
|
Hi N,
If you are going from SML to Paris, I don't think that you want to fly from Pisa to Nice. There are two night trains from Genova Piazza Principe to Paris, 16:55 via Ventimiglia to Paris Austerlitz, arr 07:45 And the 21:19 via Milan to Paris Bercy, arr 08:23 The second one is the Artesia night train from Milan. Trenitalia is offering fares of 35E for a T6 and 60E for a T4 berth. See www.trenitalia.com. Click "Promotions". You can fly from Genova (GOA) to Paris CDG for 122E, but there is a layover in Munich. You can fly from Pisa (PSA) direct to Paris Orly for 122E. See www.whichbudget.com Enjoy your visit. ((I)) |
Hi everyone: I may have confused you. Here's my preliminary agenda:
*Rome 5 days (best way to get from Rome to SML, i.e., Genoa??) *SML 3 days *CT 3 days (best way to get from CT, i.e., Genoa to Paris) *Paris 6 days Thanks for your help!! |
Hello Ira: I know you are also a travel pro. What would you recommend as the most convenient travel method to get from Rome to SML. Would I fly to Genoa and then take a train to SML. Do you know how long the flight and/or train would be from Rome to SML.
Then I need to get to Paris. I will be in CT so should I leave from Genoa and fly to Paris or Train. Again, do you know how long it would take on the train and Plane. Please, please......Ciao and Grazie |

Why not just do it all by train? If there's a particularly long stretch, take an overnight train and reserve a private sleeping compartment.
Part of the beauty of trains is they arrive in the center of towns and cities. Airports are most always quite aways from the center, so while your flight may be quick, the overall time may not be shorter or less expensive. |
If you enter your cities on www.trenitalia.com (click English at the top of the page), you will see how long it takes by train.
The same thing for www.whichbudget.com to see flight times. Just locate the closest airports/citis (probably Pisa) that have flights to Paris. |
There is a good train from Turin Porta Susa to Paris, takes about 8 hours, you can catch the train from 5T to Genoa and then its about 90 minutes to Turin Porta Nouva, you need to take a taxi to PS, its about 5 minutes.

If possible you can fly out of Pisa direct to Orly and take the bus right into Paris. My daughter who lives in Florence did that with her boyfriend in April and we met them there.
