Best way to get from Heathrow to central London

Hello. It has been recommended by the hotel that I am staying at London Guards Hotel, near Lancaster Gate to take the Heathrow Paddington Express from the airport. Any advice? I also heard that transportation at terminal 4 is being "re-routed" due to repairs?

For a single or a couple the Heathrow Express is the best option. The hotel is very close to the Paddington station.

It all depends on what your definiton of "best" is.

Well, it indeed is your definition of best...it is certainly expensive and if the hotel is near Lancaster Gate underground you will probably still need a taxi to get there...Lancaster Gate is in walking distance of Paddington alright but whether it is walkable with baggage well who knows.

OTOH for the most part, the tube is the cheapest but yes currently there is a problem on the tube (not the Heathrow Express) coming into and out of Terminal 4 as the underground station there is closed and you have to bus to Hatton Cross and catch the tube there (not that big a deal but then again schlepping your luggage etc.) besides which it is a pain to get to Lancaster Gate underground requiring 2 changes or you can cut it to 1 change by taking the Picadilly line much further into central London and switching to the Central line (or Picadilly to Earls Court, district to Notting Hill and Central to Lancaster) and then again the question is schlepping with your luggage.

Or if there are a couple of people, a car service direct to your hotel might be best but it could be the longest as London traffic is well London traffic.

So one would need more info to really provide the best answer and again it comes down what you are looking for; cheapest? quickest? most comfortable/

IN my case the 'best' way is the most convenient, as I usually travel with my family (2 kids). AT heathrow we arranged airport transfers with justairports.com. They are much more reasonable than a taxi, and were very reliable. There is a discount if you pay with cash instead of credit card.

If your hotel is close to Paddington, the HEathrow Express would probably be fine.

Thank you for the tip on justairports.com. I will use that. We have a bit of luggage and so "schlepping it" may not be the optimal decision. Especially since we are new to London.
