Best way to get from Citivecchia to Rome?

What is the most convenient and economical way for 4 people to get from the cruise ship in Citivecchia to central Rome?

The least expensive way is to take the train - cost is roughly $8.00 per person and take about an hour. You may have to take a taxi from the pier to the train station in Civitavecchia.

Hello Sara,

You may be interested to know that many trains from Civitavecchia stop at Roma S. Pietro, a 3-minute bus-ride (or 10 minute walk) from the Vatican.

Steve

We just returned from a cruise in Citivecchia (July 7th)and had the ABSOLUTE best transfer service from Limoservicerome. They were reasonable -cost us 260,000 lire from Rome to the pier for a party of 5 and a TON of luggage. Luggage for four people will probably be a hassle taking the train - we didn't even attempt. Same price applied going back to the airport at the end of our cruise. They were prompt, courteous, spoke some english and we were just thrilled with the service. You can email Andrea at:
[email protected]

They also have a website at: http://www.limoservicerome.com/

They don't require prepayment - you pay them at the time in either lire or US dollar.

What cruise line are you taking - we were on the Grandeur of the Sea - Royal Caribbean.

We'll be on a Renaissance cruise. No concerns about luggage, though, as this is just a day stop. What about a tour of Rome? Is there a nore economical way to see the city than the costly shore excursion? Thanks for the limo info.

Take the train as luggage is not a consideration. Buy some walking tour guides for Rome, decide (given the time you have) whether to see Ancient and Rennaisance Rome or the Vatican/Sistene Chapel - MOST IMPORTANT!! - get a good map of Rome (we had several and they were all different and all wrong). Why spend $300 apiece for the ship's excursion when you can do it on your own for less than $50 including lunch. By the way, you will need a taxi in Civitavechia to get to the train station.

Sara - we had a wonderful private guide in Rome - his name is Rolando. He charged us $12/per person/per hour. He spoke wonderful English. We saw a ton of things in one day and he got us to the front of any lines. If you are interested in him - I can get you his phone number and fax number. He is from the Old school and doesn't believe in email.
