Best way to get from Barcelona to Madrid?

Hi all, my wife and I will be flying from Paris to either Madrid or Barcelona (haven't decided which city to visit first). We'll be there in June and have one week to split between the two cities. We plan to spend a few days in one city, then travel to the other. Then fly back to Paris.

So, was wondering the best way to get between Barcelona and Madrid? I see there are flights available for not too much. What about trains?

Also, is it possible to do a three-legged trip from Paris (i.e. fly into Barcelona and out of Madrid)?

Thanks for any and all help. SDA

Flight time between Barcelona and Madrid is slightly over an hour with hourly departures on at least two, if not three (Iberia, Spanair, Vueling, airlines.

Train will take about 5 hours or so BUT it will take you from city center to city center.

You could use budget airlines between all three to include EasyJet, Ryanair, and Vueling.

Trains took too long and are usually more expensive than flying between Madrid and Barcelona.

Thanks, I appreciate the help. How difficult/easy is it to get from airport to the city centre of both cities.

Barcelona offers both an "airport bus" and rail connections to "downtown" in addition to the usual taxis. The trip takes 15-20 minutes as I recall.

Madrid's airport has a Metro stop.
