Best way to do an overnight in florence ...

And still see The Prisoners. We get into Florence in the early afternoon. Should we see The Accademia when we get there or should we do it in the morning of the next day.

Also, we were planning on staying at the Torre Guelfa Firenza. Any thoughts or recommendations?

The Accademia sometimes has long lines. I've found the lines near the end of the day to be shorter and the place to be quieter. But the Prisoners are worth a wait, speaking, as they do, to modern sensibilities.

Hi rev,

Will you have spent 10 hrs on a plane or 3 hrs on a train upon arrival?

PS,

While you are at it, you might want to look at the David as well. :)

Those are among my favorite works of sculptural art.

I think it depends on what you have planned for the following day and on your time of departure.

You could book in advance to avoid a long wait. Your hotel can do this for you. You will pay when you pick up the tickets on site.

ira, you're too funny. I think i might have a glance at ole Dave. And yes, we will have just made a fair trip from USA by way of Frankfort. Frankfort's layover will offer a chance to stretch it all out for a second.

We are staying one night and then taking a rail to CT for a couple of nights, then to Siena for 3 nights of R&R. Following our stay in Siena, we will rail to Rome for 4 nights.

I have always wanted to see the prisoners. They present a profound way of understanding life. With all of the amazing art in Florence, these pieces will make Florence trip for me.

Does anyone know anything about the Hotel Torre Guelfa? I know it is on the other side of downtown, but other than that?

Hi Rev,

>we will have just made a fair trip from USA by way of Frankfort. Frankfort's layover will offer a chance to stretch it all out for a second.<

If you get to the Academia about fiveish, you should be able to study the Prisoners in relative quiet. However, the following morning might be better, as you will be over your jet lag and your mind will be working better.

Remember that you are not permitted to take pix.

What day of the week? They are closed Monday. If you don't want to book in advance, there were two lines last time I went. One was for people paying cash (the short line) and the other for people using credit cards. They wanted you to have the exact amount.
