Best way?----- from Rome to Positano

We, 2 adults and a 7 years old child with one 27" luggage and one carryon, will go to Positano from Civitavecchia(Rome) after cruise in the middle of July. We have 3 options:
1. Take taxi from Civitavecchia to Rome Termini station(Euro.115), take train to Naple and transfer to Sorrento(cost unknown), then take taxi to the hotel in Positano(cost unknown). We can also take Sita bus to Positano.
2. Take bus from Rome to Positano(don't know any details --- when and where the bus starts, how many times a day, and how long the trip).
3. Take taxi from Civitavecchia to Positano(Euro.490 from romecab.com).

We have no idea about how long would take us for the above 3 options. We need help to decide the best way and easy way to get to our destination. Thank you very much in advance.

Go to the Rome termini station. Buy second class Eurostar tickets to Naples. In Naples, a driver (recommend Francesco Marrapese) will take you to Positano in his car/van. It's a breeze.

Hi L,

Since you have a reasonable amount of luggage, I suggest:

Cab from cruise ship to Civitavecchia train station.

There is a direct train to Naples. In Naples Centrale go downstairs to the Circumvesuviana commuter train to Sorrento. The SITA bus to Positano leaves from across the street from the Sorrento station.

OR More scenic and less lugging of luggage.

Cab from cruise ship to Civitavecchia train station.

Train to Salerno via Rome. Take the ferry (docks are about 3 blks SE from the train station) to Positano.

See www.trenitalia.com for train schedules, prices and tickets.

Two adults with a child are eligible for the "offerta famiglia".

Thank you for the replies. I think I will take ira's suggestion:
1. Cab from cruis to the Civitavecchia train station. By the way, do you know how long would take us?
2. Train to Salerno, and transfer in Rome.
3. Take Ferry to Positano. Once again, how long is the Ferry ride?

Thank you again for all the helpful information.
